| HISTORY |
Holly started out as any kid in the glorious big city of Goldenrod would. Pickpocketing the rich drunkards who stumbled out of the casino. At least, this is what she assumes that most kids were doing, as that's what her parents told her. And they were always right. This was a fun game that her and her parents played, a competition of sorts, to see how much money she could bring back, or how fast she could get away after being noticed. To her, they were just some fun and games, no one really got hurt, not really. The only thing that would hurt is the rich drunk's heads when their hangover hit them the next morning, and their wallets when they figure they spent too much and won too little.
Though Holly was young, this was how her family earned their money, by coercing her to steal from whoever she could, whenever she could, and give it all to them. What started as a game became more and more serious as she grew older. They started to put a lot of pressure on their only child, telling her that they were always on the brink of starvation, that they would be homeless if she didn't bring in more money, that they needed her to help them and if she didn't, they wouldn't be able to afford anything. In reality, they were a decently well off family. They had a decent apartment overlooking the water, they had good clothes, could afford nice food. They just didn't want to work, so instead, they put all their financial burdens on Holly. Naive little Holly, who never questioned her parents. If they said they needed more money, then clearly, they did. She always gave everything she 'earned' to them, and never kept a single dollar for herself.
When she finally did get caught by a plain clothed police officer, it took everything she had to keep ahead of the growlithe who pursued her... She still has a scar on the back of her leg where the bite landed. She came home that night, seeking sympathy and comfort from her parents, but received only scolding and disappointment from them. How could she have been so careless?! This was their livelihood she was putting at stake! And now they needed to budget what they had left until her leg healed. Why couldn't she see how tough this was on them, how much they were going to have to sacrifice now, why couldn't she just do better? Is this what she wanted? Was this all some selfish ploy? She needed to get over herself, and see that there is a bigger picture than just herself.
It broke her to hear her parents talk to her like that, and she spent the rest of her time healing beating herself up for making such a stupid, careless mistake. She replayed everything they said again and again in her head, and she convinced herself that they were right. She went back to thieving, and this time, she avoided anyone who looked like they might have a fast or strong pokemon that could protect them. Eventually, Rocket activity started to act up again within the city. Things got more and more dangerous, target the wrong person, and she knew she'd end up with worse than a growlithe bite next time. There were a few close calls here and there, but she so far, could always get away with only a few scrapes.
Around the time she was twenty, she once again picked the wrong pocket. Some guy, a little older than herself it would seem, but he had on nice clothes, and times were getting desperate. Her parents had been on her for declining earnings, and she was starting to lower her standards. But to her shock, the man grabbed her wrist as she tried to steal from him, but he didn't seem angry. In fact, after seeing who it was trying to steal from him, he just smiled and laughed, and told her that was a good try, but she could do better. Confused, she started a conversation with him, and it turned out, he was a pickpocket too, but he used his zubat to help him pick out good marks.
In a sense, he took her under his wing. He was kind, funny, and honestly, became a really close friend to her. As the first person she'd really become friends with, she stuck to him like glue. He kept her away from the shady dealings in the darker parts of the city, and gave her tips on how to be a better thief. And after hearing about her parents, though obviously through her own bias, he was the one who encouraged her that she needed to look out for herself. She didn't owe them anything. She was 21 now, she was her own person. She couldn't let them control her forever.
He ended up introducing her to his group, a little start up group of thieves, but first and foremost, friends. They didn't have a lot, but they had each other, and it was a sentiment that Holly resonated with on a very deep level. She spent more and more time with the group, laughing and having fun for once, and less and less time on her own stealing, or around her parents. It caused a lot of stress, her parents weren't taking this change in her well, but it was worth it to her.
It was only one year later when he was killed. The official story was some team rocket related story, that he had gotten in the way of them trying to steal some pokemon. What really happened was worse.
He, the leader of their friend group, wanted to fight back against team rocket, wanted to help this city rebuild itself. They were already doing illegal things themselves, they could do things the stupid police couldn't or wouldn't do. The others agreed, but in their first attempt at trying to sabotage a shipment of stolen pokeballs coming into the dock, something went wrong. One of the group died, she got cornered by a couple of houndour...
When the group found her, one of them snapped, yelling that this was all his fault, that it was his stupid idea and now their friend was dead. Holly tried to calm them down, but it was no use. He demanded his so-called leader to fight him right then and there, but when he was refused... He sent his marshtomp out anyway. Still, Holly's friend refused to even send out his zubat, refused to fight his friend like this, but accepted responsibility. He told Holly to get out of there, but she likewise refused, standing between them, and begging with the trainer that this wasn't his fault, that they were friends.
He didn't care anymore, all he saw was red. He sent his marshtomp to deal with Holly, while he rushed his former friend. He didn't even fight back, not even when he saw the pocket knife come out.
Holly didn't have any pokemon at that point, she had no way to defend herself, and the harder she tried to get to her friend to help him, the more the marshtomp did to stop her.
By the end of it, she was left bloody and bruised, scratched up and barely standing, and her friend was left on the ground. Dead. With his so-called friend standing above him. She doesn't remember what happened after that very well. She yelled. Screamed. In anguish, in anger, in desperation, her mentor, her first and best friend, dead in front of her. Before she could do anything to try to get back at him for doing this, more grunts sounded like they were coming to investigate the commotion. He left her there, standing with her dead friend, claiming she was never even part of the group to begin with.
She got away, somehow. Ended up back in her apartment with her parents. The following year was a blur of despair and pain, fighting with her parents after having been pushed beyond her limit. She moved out after a particularly bad fight. She kept trying to keep her friend's memory alive though, and it was then she decided she would really start living for herself. Starting, by getting out of this decaying city, this stupid region, and starting over completely new.

| UPDATES |
- Caught Sentret as a shadow pokemon before being registered as a League Official Trainer and having her trainer card, as such, Evan is technically an illegally caught pokemon, and her first
- Officially obtained Cherry as her "first" pokemon from the professor after being issued her trainer card
- Before leaving to finally start her own adventure and begin her quest for her first gym badge, Holly stopped by the shelter, not intending to adopt anyone, but just wanting to see all the sweet pokemon before she set off. This didn't go to plan however, as she spotted a little bulbasaur who seemed to be shy and nervous, as he was standing off to the side and not playing. Feeling bad for the poor thing, she adopted him on the spot. Without even meaning to, she now has three pokemon.
