Mike looked out the passenger side car window, trying to guess what place Sadie might be taking him to. But soon there was no need for guessing, as Sadie finally pulled over and parked her car next to a dark alley. Pinning the brake pedal under her shoeless right foot, she shifted the car into park and shut off the engine. "Get out," she commanded. And as Mike opened the door and stepped out onto the sidewalk, Sadie turned toward the back seat and fished around until she found both her shoes. She slipped the burgundy pumps back onto her feet and exited the vehicle.
"This way," Sadie said to Mike as she gestured toward the alley. Mike followed the clicks of her three-and-a-half-inch heels as she walked fearlessly into the darkness. When the two reached the end of the alley, Mike's eyes finally adjusted to the low light and he saw a sturdy but otherwise nondescript metal door. Nearby, on one of the alley's side walls, was a small electronic display screen which was connected to some unknown device on the ground beneath it.
"What is this place?" Mike asked. Sadie replied, "You might say it's a private place I keep just for *situations* like this. This is the secret entrance." Sadie smiled coyly. "I got the tech guys to install some security measures, so there's something I gotta do to get us in. Here, hold my shoe." Mike struggled to hide his excitement as Sadie lifted her right leg and extended it toward him, then lowered her foot into his hands. Mike grasped Sadie's shoe, as he had been told, and held onto it as she pulled her foot out of it. "Good," Sadie said as she touched her stockinged toes to the ground. "Now, watch this."
Sadie turned toward the mystery device on the ground. She bent down and lifted its lid, revealing the glass panel of a scanner. She pressed her unshod foot against the panel, and within a couple of seconds, the display screen on the wall lit up with the words "MONGOOSE, SADIE S. -- Access Granted". The "clack" of a lock opening was heard coming from next to the door's handle. Sadie grabbed the handle and pushed the door open. She turned back to Mike and uttered two words: "Inside. Now."
