Description Models: Vanessa & Alicia
Taken: Jan '10, La Defense

I owe a huge thank you to these two girls - they absolutely froze during this shoot, but managed to not show it too much and still look gorgeous.

I've been wanting to take pictures on these steps (at La Defense, the business district just outside Paris) for a long time.

I fell this would have been looked better if you'd hbeen parallel to the stairs.

Mmm I've already had a couple of comments back about that. I would straighten out the photo, only I didn't leave enough space round the left hand side...
All other shots taken on these stairs were parallel, I just tilted the camera a little for this shot to go with the 'ditzy blonde' factor as it were.

I happened upon April during this shoot and before anything else I have to applaud her and her friends for braving the freezing cold. I felt cold in my thick winter coat!

I'm glad to see you were able to get some keepers out of this shoot. There are more to come, I hope?

I like the concept, it is simple yet interesting. Getting the two girls to interact was a good idea.

The tilt factor doesn't really work for me though, I'm afraid. It doesn't seem tilted enough to seem intentional and just seems visually jarring. If anything, I think having it straight makes the upside down magazine even more striking, emphasizing the concept without being too blatant about it.

Also the top left corner is the brightest part of the photo and I feel my eye getting pulled towards it. Straightening the photo and perhaps slightly darkening that corner might help with that.

Lovely work. I'm glad I ran into you that day, now I don't have any more excuses not to shoot in the cold.

I had a go at untilting the shot, and fact is, it didn't work. I (annoyingly) didn't leave enough space on the left and top of the photo to straighten it out properly without cutting off the left hand model somewhat.

Might darken the top corner a little

Trust me, apart from freezing hands, you're not the one suffering by shooting in the cold. The models are...

Well it is still a nice shot!

I absolutely agree that the models are the real heroes in terms of braving the cold. Later that day I asked some of my friends if they would even consider doing the same for me in this weather and I got some great "are you out of your mind" looks!

Vanessa is great for that. On her first ever shoot she headed out with me to the centre of Paris with a tutu and ballet shoes on... [link] it was great!

This is really good. I love how the girls are on some steps and how the magazine is upside down. But I couldn't help notice that it's a bit lop sided. I dunno if it's meant to be like that though.

And the title matches really well. :fav:

I did notice it being a bit lop sided. It was intentional (though I did have a look at what it looked like straightened out!) as it goes along the theme of the magazine being upsided down. The girly "oops" factor, as it were.
Do you think it would look better straightened out though?

Thanks so much for the feedback btw... it's always really appreciated!

It looks good lop sided, and you're right, it does go with the theme.

I think it'd look okay straightened out, but better lop sided. If that makes sense.
