In remembrance of a young enthusiast.

Vultur Martes was someone who reached out to me back in the spring of 2014. I know little more about him than that. He had apparently been a long fan of my Fort Glenscar story and the United Mustelinae (now known as Mayland) Empire world that I had created around it. He was very enthusiastic to present to me several of his UME fan art, and mention a short fiction or two he had written. He even designed the currency for my story, which really impressed me. For hours each week, we would voice chat telling stories and sharing ideas, and when I showed him the 3D simulated version of the world that I had customised from an old game, to say he was excited would be an understatement. When it came to my earlier stories, he was perhaps my only known fan.

To me he was a very sweet, encouraging and respectful person, the type of enthusiast that lifts your spirit rather than drain it. He wanted a drawing of us together, but we unfortunately never got around to finishing the details. Ever since I learned of his passing, I promised I would still draw what little of that idea we had to look back on. It unfortunately took a couple of years for me to pick up the pencil again, but I'm still glad I managed to get around to it. He wanted to learn and contribute to my fabricated world so much, I figured this single appearance would have pleased him.

The scene here is representing how we first met, in a sense. The day he contacted me via messenger, I was surprised and unsure how he found me. I meant to inquire, but quickly took a liking to him and lost this thought in conversation. My fursona is the 4th Viscount Boyce in the UME, and a member of mammals who manage freight regulations for over-the-road and rail transport within the empire's province of Hearthwin. Here he is seen inspecting a new series of commercial trailers at the Martin Motors assembly plant in North Pine Grove, Hearthwin, with the chief executive of the company to his right, and the DOT compliance manager on his left. Suddenly, this young marten takes everyone by surprise with his unauthorised entrance. "Can we talk for a minute?" were his first words to me.

This was quite complex compared to what I'm used to, made more so by the fact that I'm horrible at keeping my backgrounds simple. I find drawing perspective art difficult yet I always make a hard-road attempt at them. Anyway, only he and a handful who've paid attention to my earlier submissions on certain art sites would catch the references here.
