Description The one and only <3

I saw the new movie recently... Quinto was amazing, but Nimoy will always be Spock, as far as I'm concerned. I know alot of people have been complaining about the huge timeline changes the movie made, but TBH I'm embracing it. Think: now there's an excuse for a million new movies/shows, plus a universe containing 2 Spocks instead of one! If there's a downside to this, I'm failing to see it.

The only minor letdown for me was the lack of Shatner, even in the form of a cameo

(did anyone else think Scotty deserved triple the screen-time he got?!)

FULLVIEW IT (I dont own Trek or any of that crap, blah blah)

I think it is good that a timeline change has been made. Now you can separate clearly between original Star Trek and new Star Trek with original characters. Thus the evolution of characters and all events which will happen need not to be the same and can be changed to meet requirements for newer generations (in real life). I belief OST had had an huge impact of peoples life (and sometimes still has). Therefore, this could happen to be performed by this spin off too while the original characters events and what so ever remain untouched.

BTW Fascinating

I *love* the blue lighting you used in the right side of this, it totally makes the picture for me. Especially the nose. I don't really know why, but that nose is just amazing.

Nimoy will always be Spock for me, too. Though I think I can grow into Zach Quinto's portrayal...eventually! I loved the movie but I don't think it had much depth. Like a cartoon, it treated the subject matter too lightly. Simon Pegg was a marvel...but so was much of the cast. Your portrait is great. Love the reflections from the shirt on the face. Smashing.

ooOoooOOOoooh! Gorgeous, got chills full viewing it.
So, so very Nimoy. Yesss, Nimoy will always be Spock. xD
And the points you made about the new movie are ones we share!
I'm sorry, I fail to see the downside to the awesomeness that was Star Trek 11.
Jesus... have I really watched 11 Star Trek films?
Anyway back to the piece, the lighting & shading are beautiful... even the insignia looks great.
Very lovely! <3

Oh....it is so beautiful, I love...everything about it.

The. Movie. Was. AWESOME. I know some people were mad about the huge change; my friend even said he didn't want it to be about TOS (gasp! you traitor). The end made me so happy...they can do ANYTHING with this now. Perhaps a gazillion movies? Or another series? Ohh, let there be another series Star Trek must make another comeback on Television!

Oh, and for the record... TREK > WARS! Sar Trek is infinately better than Star Wars.

Again, GREAT work.

Thank you! And I agree 100%... its not like the eradicated the original series so i don't understand why everyone is so touchy. As if trek hasn't had a MILLION episodes where they go back in time and/or exist in separate realities. This is just one of a million branching-off storylines. And I'm thrilled that they are gonna make more trek in my lifetime

Carmabellagal In reply to Luftwaffles [2009-07-12 10:39:51 +0000 UTC]

No problem!

People are touchy I think because they're not sure if it's canon, you know...and I think they didn't like the new Enterprise. But it was just SO amazing....I, like you, am thrilled there's gonna be more Trek during my lifetime, and I'm hoping afterwards, too! I'm so excited, I'm practically driving everyone up the wall with my enthusiasm.

I totally agree with you on what you said about Nimoy always being the 'real' Spock, although I thought Quinto was as close as they could come without cloning Nimoy.
Oh, and love your painting, you did him proud on this!

Weird!!
But it's a REALLY great painting I think, I really like the colors, and the mouth is DEAD-on.

Luftwaffles In reply to MetreonCascade [2009-05-24 00:43:36 +0000 UTC]

Consider this personal growth.. though TBH.. I'm not so much national socialist, I'm kind of just fascinated with all the evil people in history.. I dunno why.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MetreonCascade In reply to Luftwaffles [2009-05-24 23:26:09 +0000 UTC]

Well, some of the most evil people in history were also some of the most capable (if you consider a sociopath a person - I'm not sure I do). It does take an incredible genius to turn one of the most civilized nations on Earth into such a ruthless war machine. One must wonder what might have happened if Hitler had had a conscience and better influences. He wouldn't be as widely known, I'm sure - conscience is a major handicap in politics.

There's also the question of whether a situation ever requires one to do evil. Kill a thousand to save a million, etc.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Luftwaffles In reply to MetreonCascade [2009-05-25 23:46:03 +0000 UTC]

Sociopaths are people.. people who are imbalanced, but people nonetheless. I think society likes to demonize them so that they can distance themselves from something they feel is dangerous. But he wasn't (just) some slobbering monster bent on world destruction.. he was extremely charming, loved animals, and had a whole host of other characteristics that any normal person would have. *That* is what made him so dangerous. Look around you.. your benevolent neighbor could be the next Hitler.

As far as committing evil to save people.. evil is in the eye of the beholder. Surely the people who it saves will not see it as evil at all. Those who got killed, however, probably see it differently.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MetreonCascade In reply to Luftwaffles [2009-05-26 01:11:36 +0000 UTC]

That's what creeps people out - most sociopaths are charming and somewhat genteel. Most are law-abiding, because they understand the consequences of crime even if they don't feel that harming others is wrong. But what do you do with someone who either doesn't see themselves as a member of the human race, or doesn't see others as people?

That said, his mannerisms during speeches certainly look deranged.

Let's see....Spock can use the Vulcan Nerve Pinch to incapacitate any of your almighty Jedi. As well, Vulcans are x3 stronger than humans! So there. He could either beat them up, or do it the civilized way. But he STILL owns. Star Trek is MUCH better than Star Wars. Consider: The Enerprise's Phasers and Photon Torpedoes can defeat anything any Star Wars craft has.

(Heh, this is gonna be a fun debate...)

Oh, YEAH? Well take a good look at the other Trek series. The Galaxy-Class starship could OWN your beloved ships, as well as the ships from the 29th century! Now you can't beat THAT. As well, the timeship could send them back or forward in time to a place where their history was in peril! DIE!

Aand...who says they can just pinch them?? They ALL can use phasers, which are long-range, unlike your light sabers. As well, we have othr specis which are jus as powerful as YOUR aliens; the Okampa from Voyager can use their telepathic powers for telekinesis, pyrokinesis, destroying and creatig life, etc. And about the station...I have one thing to say to you about THAT: DEEP SPACE NINE. THAT is the space station that could OWN Death Star. And, in the 24th century, they have technology that can cosume whole stars, and planets, as seen in the new movie!

Agreed, both were good. And this is DEFINATELY fun. I love debating Trek vs Wars!
