profession || Crafter, would qualify as a blacksmith and engineer, an uncommon profession around Sedo. She started out by creating windboards with her father, and eventually found interest in biomechanics and creates prosthetic limbs and mobility aids since then. She works closely with Saviors for that purpose. She, however, doesn't frown on creating weapons or any private commission, as long as the service offered in exchange is worth the time spent on those other creations. She is pretty much a jack of all trades one might call for any help requiring mathematical and mechanical knowledge, even dabbling in architecture for the same reason. As much as she is talented and can make the best out of very little, Danaë's craft currently remains simple and practical, despite an inventive twist. Prosthetics from her are often made out of fireproof wood and even bones, using scrap metal scarecely. She often uses leather and cloth as well, but never gets to create full-blown metal prosthetics with very complex mechanisms like you would find in Aodh or Breim.

Danaë resembles in many ways the desert she was born into. Warm, wild and free, she is a happy-go-lucky and free-spirited mare, beloved by many as someone optimistic and playful that always makes for a fun time. In true extrovert fashion, she needs to spend time among others to strive and developed her social skills beyond her inability to talk in order to avoid isolation. She is a familiar, musical figure endearing to most, known for her motherly nature and enthusiasm towards life. Danaë is very energetic and cannot spend a day quietly – she will always need to keep herself busy and find ways to avoid boredom at all costs. She is known to have matured significantly in the wake of becoming a mother, making her more helpful, protective and benevolent than her reckless young self. Danaë has a natural urge to defend the younger and the weaker and yearns for justice – she is courageous and won’t remain passive whenever something she disagrees with happens. She is protective of children no matter the horizon they came from- they will always find an advocate in her. Danaë is a brilliant mind of creativity, a crafter with a mind unlike most capable of creating outstanding pieces. Her intelligence is practical, mechanic yet deeply inventive and almost artistic: she creates her pieces to resemble their receivers, to be an assistant in their lives and bring them joy to the best of her ability. She will find inventive solutions to every problem she comes across.
As much as Danaë is a solar individual, she does have her struggles. She considers herself a walking contradiction, a meek, deceitful figure who does not live up to the overwhelming love she receives from her peers. She is crippled with insecurity and frustration – keeping painful secrets to herself in fear of disappointing, terrified of being alone. Despite being surrounded by so many equines, she struggles to feel truly connected to any of them – rare are those who witnessed the depth of her psyche, and even rarer are those she manages to communicate with while not suffering from her lack of voice thanks to a greater understanding of her on their part: this is the kind of connection she craves and finds it so hard to find. Danaë might not be as reckless as she once was, but certainly struggles with self-control still and often acts quicker than she thinks: while this can prove to be an asset when it comes to dealing with danger, it also has her appear as blunt and is not the best in situations that would require diplomacy. Patience is difficult for her, especially when it comes to her own work and she has a very little attention span, making it difficult to communicate with many people at a given time or to understand a conversation she is not interested into. Boredom is the worst of tortures to her and she will do just anything to avoid it, even the most trivial things. She feels frustrated by her inability to make a compromise between her own ideals with her herd’s lifestyle, making her resentful of her home and patron goddess when she was a teenager. She is ambition-driven and wants the best for herself and the ones she loves that ambition was once driven by selfish motives and the pure need to see her own potential become a reality. Nowadays, it is ruled by a need of striving and finding balance and have those around her profiting from it. It taught her a sense of sacrifice and of forethinking: she compromises her own aspirations for the bigger picture, knowing that in the end, she could have it all, a lesson her mother taught her well enough.

➳ before birth ||
Danaë was born from a couple that never feared fire. Abel, her father, was once a windracer, descended from a long line of horses with creative minds and golden pelts. After an accident had left him earthbound, he became a mechanic, crafting and fixing windboards, dabbling in blacksmithing, earning him a fire manipulation blessing from Ignacio. Vesta caught his eye as soon as she walked into Osulas – partly because she was fire herself. The former servile slave was a secretive mare who never once spoke about her experience in Aodh, afflicted at birth by a Fire blessing. Ashamed of being touched by Ignacio whom she started to dread after escaping her former herd, she tried to keep this a secret in order to blend in with the Serorians. Upon Abel’s understanding and acceptance, she finally came to terms with that blessing, using it to heal instead of burning and making it an asset in her profession, for she chose to become a Savior.
From such a couple could never come anything but a flaming child.

Danaë was welcomed into the family with joy and laughter. Giving birth to her gave Vesta the feeling of finally belonging fully in Abel’s family and in her new herd. It was soon clear that she had no voice, although the reason for this particularity is still to this day unknown, but it never once a problem to her entourage who soon adjusted to use sign language at any given time. Upon her mother’s request, she learned how to read and write under a Mullah’s tuition, an old friend of Vesta’s and father to Acorro, Danaë’s oldest friend. The filly learned her way with words and turned out to grow very eloquent when using them on paper. Danaë manifested an interest in mathematics under Arlon’s instruction and soon gravitated towards mechanics as she followed her father around: her talent in this field soon became obvious. The child was ingenious and inventive, helping her father with her unique way of seeing things and coming up with creative solutions: he had no doubt she would do wonderfully as his successor.

Danaë started her apprenticeship under her father at a very young age. She learned the basics of mechanics and blacksmithing by his side, and soon got creative with it, building engines that did not have much to do with windboards. As she learned by his side, she saw him weakening as months went by. Abel was struck with an unknown disease none of Serora’s saviors had any remedy for despite Vesta’s best efforts to find a cure. His limbs kept weakening, and he gradually deserted the forge, leaving his daughter to do what he could not and giving her plenty of room to practice on her own. Willing to help her father, Danaë found her interest in biomechanics by observing him: she created for him braces that carried his weight when his legs wouldn’t, improving them day after day, so he could still move for the longest possible time. As one of his legs stopped being responsive, Abel took the difficult decision to get rid of it and replacing it with a synthetic one, hoping it would buy him some more time. Danaë helped him through the creation of a prosthetic leg. She never stopped working on it, often replacing it with a new, more advanced one that would allow her father to suffer less.
There was no calling off destiny though and a year later he had left Danaë and her mother alone, shortly after she went through her Rising Wind ceremony.
➳ adulthood ||
By the age of 16, she was on her own, left with her father’s duties and struggling to figure out what she wanted from life. Her mother started requesting she made braces and prosthetic limbs for her patients and she had to learn for herself – blacksmiths didn’t run the streets, and prosthetic limbs were usually imported from other herds. Danaë’s work soon proved however that custom made prosthetics were a lot more functional and comfortable, allowing the mare to keep working on those, in which she took a genuine liking. She started crafting anything that could help an equine regain their freedom: braces, wheelchairs, prosthetic limbs…But it did not feel like it was enough. Her boiling mind wanted to create more and better: she dabbled in jewelry and weapon-making without finding satisfaction. But nothing she ever created lived up to her imagination, and the frustration within her kept burning harder and harder. Working with the familiar fire of the forge had become a coping mechanism to her - she barely ever walked out of this place that felt so much like Abel and her concerned friends had to drag her out of it, much to her dismay. She knew it would be so much easier if she could manipulate fire at will. She secretly started her quest to understand and find Ignacio, the most dreaded god in Sedo. It was not without shame however, as she knew how much her mother hated anything that connected her Aodh, it was only reluctantly that she mastered her blessing. Vesta had never seen Danaë’s attraction to blacksmithing with a good eye, as it was an activity that was so frequent in Valore.
Danaë benefitted from resources as a professional - however never as much as she wanted to in order to experiment an improve her craft which she knew needed improvement in order to benefit the herd. Serora didn't have the technological advancement she was striving for and she therefore had to find other ways in order to create more and better, often out of her professional range. Learning from her mother how to use shards, she started to travel around Sedo, dealing with travelling merchants and thieves willing to get her what she needed for a good price, she developed an interesting network of equines willing to help her in her journey of improving her craft, finding herself often traveling with people from other herds.
This is how she met Sirius, an elusive hedgewitch who seemed to have spent a lifetime on the road. A much older man she felt in immediate connection with unlike any.
Now, she doesn’t know what it was. She was nineteen back then, still troubled by the loss of her father, unknowing of where she wanted and crippled by guilt. The stallion felt so similar, and that kinship she felt with him confused her to the core. She kept insisting that she wanted what happened. She was so desperately lonely, and traveling by his side had left her bewitched by the unicorn’s grace. He kept telling her that he could never stay by her side, as much as she wanted him to. Yet he caved in and shared a short-lived idyll with her, until she had to make her way back to Sedo.
She didn’t realize by this point that the only thing she truly needed was a friend. She did not think she would be as heartbroken as she was when she walked back, head low, to Osulas. She certainly didn’t expect what he had left her with either. These were things someone who was barely an adult could not realize.
She found out much too late. A month and a half went by until Vesta realized what was going on with her daughter. She had been sick and started to grow bigger: within a month she’d give birth. Ashamed, Danaë had not talked to her mother, only accepting to talk in front of her stepfather. All her friends, upon learning the story, grew revolted. And a month later, they became adoring when they saw the face of Danaë’s daughter.
Little Lucie was a unicorn like her father and was raised in the love of a big, strange family stitched from bits and pieces. Danaë strived in motherhood despite all the fear it awoke in her: Lucie challenged her to be her better self, she made her brave, and she gave her a sense of tomorrow. Danaë learned alongside her daughter and blossomed into a reliable adult despite everything. She became more patient and more benevolent towards the world, even though it does not always play in her favor.
➳ in-game || During the war, Danaë left with the herd when they reached for the Oasis along with her mother so she could keep Lucie safe.
Chapter 8: Danaë was a part of the convoy that was supposed to escort two rangers to the Sultan. In a striking turn of events, Alya and Cascade appeared, then followed by Digend who used Alya's power to spawn a tower in the middle of the desert. Alya witnesses it and returns in order to protect her children, interacting with Danaë and telling her she loves her. This changes her perspectives on the goddess, having her return to being religious.
