Description Some more photos of my wolf rug Nakita, this time outside. Yes, she is a rug, but I tried to pose her to make her look more alive. There's only so much you can do with a wolf rug, so I'm some-what happy with the way it turned out.

I wish she didn't have those black felt ruffles, but oh well. Impossible to remove them And at least they aren't those two-toned ones. I guess it doesn't look too bad.

Anyways, this lovely wolf is female, and I think she's around 81" inches. So far the biggest wolf I own. She really is huge.

Shes got the most gorgeous coloration I've ever seen on a wolf. I can only imagine how stunning she must've been alive. It's a shame she died, yes, but there is nothing we can do. I'd rather purchase her and cherish her than let her rot away out in the woods somewhere, or in someone elses' house where she'd end up being walked on every day. I'll show her as much respect as I'd show any of my live animals. She will absolutely not be walked on or carelessly handled. She won't even touch the floor unless it's for pictures or to wash my bed (her current residence is at the foot of my bed >.>).

Yes she is a rug. But no, she will not be used as one. The only rugs I use to walk on aren't made of once living, breathing animals.

No, sorry. And like I said when you asked about my black wolf it is illegal for me as a California resident to sell my wolves. ^^ I can possess wolves here but not with the intent to sell. They're stuck with me until I move out of state.

2 questions 1.How did she die?
2. Can we make a nice rug out of one of your loved ones?;
I promise we'll never walk on them and we'll only show them off in only real life settings but they will be a rug none the less.

She was most likely taken for population control; wolves are overpopulated in Canada and Alaska. So, she was shot. Either through the heart, lung or head - near instant if not instant death. Nature's more cruel.

Lol, and I get this question every single time, I don't know why people would even ask taxidermists these questions, it's ridiculous.

If you really want to turn your own species into art then go ahead, I'm sure they personally wouldn't care, sense... well, they'd be already dead. I'm sure you'd end up in jail though.

Just because I like preserving animals and giving them "life" after death doesn't mean I want to turn my mother into a mount, or my grandma into a rug. I'm not some insane person who enjoys murdering people and turning my friends and family into art. I wouldn't even turn my own pet into a taxidermy piece because of sentimental reasons. It's harder to taxidermy an animal that you had a strong bond with when they were actually alive. It's not that domestic animals deserve to live more, it's just that when you have no connection to them alive, it's easier to deal with, not that you don't feel sad they died.

your life style is a preversion of death its kinda hard to respect it.
i do respect the fact that you have to earn a living but you should let the dead have their dignity;
and as far as i am am concerned until humans receive the same population control wolves do their will never be equality between the two species.

Nature is not cruel nature hold itself accountable. which is something humans don't do.

taxidermists are perverts of death same as that of embalmers they are taking something that is dead by the hands of nature and trying to make it look like its still alive that is a perversion of death.
maggots are nature, worms, bacteria, viruses, all are nature. when humans interfer with the life cycle this is when you can tell that they have a god complex. it is one thing to be the God of your own universe it is another thing completely to think that you have the right to interfer with the cycles of nature. it is true that i function daily because of science tampering with nature however, because of that tampering i only have a half life unlike most people whom have some degree of a full measure of life. This is the price i pay every day for that tampering.

Lupen202 In reply to MultifacetedMage [2011-11-22 04:58:25 +0000 UTC]

Also about the population control thing - I will say this, if humans had some kind of population control, life would be tons better. Thats why I don't get why people don't like population control. Population control would help with our increasing shortage of resources, traffic, wars, etc.

Coyotes for example, they're way too populated. With so many of them, they wander into residential areas and get in even more fights with ranchers and hunters. They fight with eachother over food and territory.. and so on.

The thing is, is we just can't go around killing people. It's murder, and though I believe no one life is worth more than another, I do think it's worse to want to kill friends and family, your own species.

Let the dead have their dignity? That's why taxidermists do what they do, and try so hard to make the animal look alive again. We respect animals, and love being close to nature. We respect and love animals more than a lot of people, why else would we want to work so close with them? Instead of allowing them to be eaten by maggots, rot on the side of the road being continually ran over, etc., we turn them into something. And doing taxidermy isn't how I earn a living, by the way. I do what I do because I love the art form and want to be able to be close with wild animals that I normally couldn't get within ten feet of. I haven't made one cent off of taxidermy.

And nature is cruel, more cruel than hunting anyways. It takes seconds for an animal to die from a gunshot. In nature some animals don't even die before they're eaten. This stamp can probably explain it better than I can, [link] .

Lupen202 In reply to sassygaycrowley [2011-05-19 01:13:57 +0000 UTC]

I don't really support fur for fashion either honestly. Full fur coats that celebrities strut around in especially.. and that's why I like taxidermy so much more. Taxidermy isn't "sad" or cruel. It's one of the better ways a deceased animal can end up.

All that taxidermy does is take an already dead animal and use the skin to make something beautiful, or give the animal a "life after death" in a way, instead of letting the skin rot away and be wasted. For example: [link] That is true art. And if that isn't respecting the animal, or beautiful I don't know what is.

The only taxidermy that creeps me out or makes me sad are the mounts on that site I linked.. crappytaxidermy.com or whatever it's called.. There are beginners and there are people who don't put any effort into their mounts, and have no respect for the animals what-so-ever. I know I wouldn't dress a squirrel up in a tux if I had any respect.

So they dont, kill animals to do taxidermy?

I always thought they did!

That is very beautiful...

One of my earliest memories is me petting a taxidermy fox at a bar in Texas, thinking it was "asleep"

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Lupen202 In reply to sassygaycrowley [2011-05-19 01:22:30 +0000 UTC]

Well, of course an animal has to be killed to do taxidermy... but a lot of the pelts used for taxidermy weren't killed just for the purpose of taxidermy. Almost every taxidermist I know (including myself) buy their pelts, and don't hunt them themselves. Sometimes roadkill animals are used too. And one of my soft mount taxidermies had to be put to sleep due to a foot disease. It was so bad that the coyote couldn't be saved.

People actually don't use taxidermy rugs as... rugs. Or don't supposed to, at least. They're meant to either hang on a wall or lay across a bed or chair. People walking over something like this would for one get it dirty, and two, the rug wouldn't last long because so much wear and tear would pull out the fur, the ears could break, etc. Plus, it's disrespectful.

SaraaLuna In reply to Lupen202 [2011-05-19 01:17:02 +0000 UTC]

True. But the word rug immediately makes me think of the floor rug, or those large "bearskin" rugs that are laid across the floor. Thanks for reminding me of the difference between a taxidermy rug and plain ole rug.

Lupen202 In reply to MaxxieFoo [2011-05-17 06:02:34 +0000 UTC]

I'd prefer that she wasn't a rug either. If it was at all possible I'd take that felt off the bottom of her and have her just as a pelt with a mounted head, or even stuff her to be a soft mount if I could sew her up, or even a lifesize. It's glued on too well though.

I just had to get her though when I saw her, being a rug or not. One of the most gorgeous colors I've seen on a wolf... and she was well done. The taxidermist that mounted her is pretty amazing.

Honestly though, I don't really have any problems with taxidermy rugs. Even though I think there are other, better ways to display an animal, like mounting them as either a soft or traditional mount, or leaving them as a pelt, I learned that rugs aren't actually used as well.. rugs in most cases. Had a friend of mine tell me that, and the reason is that, for one, walking all over the animal would not only get them dirty, but also pull the fur out over time. The rug wouldn't last too long. Taxidermy rugs are supposed to be either hung on a wall, or put somewhere no one walks.

Sorry for writing so much
