Description Noticed the one photo I had of my lifesize taxidermy mount, Lupen, didn't show him off too well.. so I decided to take him back outside to take another photo with a differen't angle to show off his markings and such better.. Even if he isn't the most proffessionally done mount he does look good I think, and I just love him <3 He, along with Maguyuk and my arctic fox pelt Cloud, were my first animals in my collection. So he's very special to me, even though Maguyuk is still my most beloved animal out of all my pelts/taxidermy pieces...

I'm not certain on why he was killed, but I'm guessing population control. Wolves aren't endangered, contrary to popular belief... and are even becoming overpopulated in places like Alaska and Canada. So, they need to be culled.

Though I assure you, population control is a good thing for both animals and humans. A death by a hunter's bullet is a much more humane way to die, than from starvation, which will happen if their population isn't kept in check.

--

Now, before you start flaming me for owning a fur or taxidermy piece – ASK QUESTIONS FIRST. Get to know me. Figure out how the animal was killed. I can’t tell you how many times people have accused me of killing an animal, told me that it’s wrong to kill an animal just for their fur, or have called me and/or my hobby disgusting. First of all, I have not killed a single animal in my entire life, except for maybe a few bugs. Secondly, animals are rarely killed just for their furs. Even fur farms use more than just the fur. Did you know that the meat in some dog and cat foods are bi-products of fur farms? If the dog food you feed your dog has any “meat bi-product” in it, it may be fox, mink, etc. And lastly, taxidermy is NOT disgusting. At all. All it is, is turning a piece of leather into something that will be admired and cherished for years to come. How is that disgusting? It’s a lot less disgusting than a rotting pile of flesh; if the animals not taxidermied, left as a pelt, or turned into some coat/accessory, that’s how it’ll end up.

And I hold utmost respect towards ALL of my animals. All of them are handled and treated carefully and respectfully. None of them are thrown around or tossed in my closet or on the floor in a corner. They are all either hung on my wall, across a chair, or on my bed. I hold the same respect for them as I do my pets. After all, they were once living and breathing too.

Hi! I know you're a real Taxidermist expert xD How much would something like this cost? And how much would just a normal fox wallmount be?

Well, Ebay always has some neat stuff, but I usually get pelts from hideandfur.com and glacierwear.com. Glacierwear rarely has mountable ones though.

If all you're going to do is call my hobby disgusting, why post at all? Animals are rarely killed for taxidermy anyways; taxidermy just puts the remains to good use, instead of letting them rot away somewhere.

Sheesh some people? You're the one who said my hobby was disgusting in the first place. I'm simply wondering why you even bother posting when you have nothing good to say.

ok darlin you're obviously gettin you're fur in a bunch here I never meant anything is wrong with it but to me collecting dead stuffed animals is disgusting. I believe that it is better to let them feed the earth with the nutrients of their bodies rather than be stuffed and put on display. but it is a beautiful wolf and as long as it died naturally I have no problem with it. I have more the native perspective on how an animal or being should be treated after it has passed away but I refuse to have anything to do with real fur or dead stuffed animals, whenever I get anything with fur on it i always burn a sample to make sure it's faux. And I am not saying it is a bad thing I just wanted to voice my opinion which here in Canada I am allowed to do thank you for your time please don't reply^_^ GW

Lupen202 In reply to GreenWolf16 [2012-07-27 04:53:58 +0000 UTC]

Look, I was never angry in the first place. As I said before, I just don't see your reasoning behind posting here. Yes that's your opinion and you have a right to voice it, but personally I don't run around calling everything I don't think is right disgusting, I just ignore it, or at least add something constructive to my post as well.

I can reply if I want to, as this is my deviation, and here in the US, we too have the right to voice our opinion and say what we like.

Yes it's good for their bodies to go back to the earth and "feed" it, but you do know fur doesn't feed anything right? The meat, sure, but the bones and fur would just be wasted anyways. All taxidermists use for taxidermy is the skin and fur. The body of this wolf more than likely was given back to the earth somehow anyways, either by being fed to other animals or buried somewhere. Or who knows, even eaten by people. Wolf meat is edible, afterall, and I heard it doesn't even taste that bad, even if most people think otherwise.

So is he not a soft mount/plushy like?

My friend ~CyranAsleep has a soft-mount plushy thingy named Lily, and she just got another named Sitka. C:

Yours is pretty cool, and I like his pose.

Lupen202 In reply to Iceshadow13 [2011-06-29 01:12:41 +0000 UTC]

No xD He's a rigid/traditonal mount, where he has a hard foam form inside that can you can purchase at places like vandykestaxidermy.com. I actually prefer traditional over soft mounts - even though I like how you can pose them, it's just neat that there are so many different forms/poses for traditional, and how some have such cool bases like [link]

Well, the different poses that you can use are really cool... The foam forms are pretty neat, I saw one at my local taxidermists, I was messing with it and he let me do stuff with it. C:

I like that mount!

Well, at least their fur isn't rotting away or in other words being wasted. Taxidermy just takes the fur and makes the animal look alive again, or in other words preserving them so other people can admire the animal for years. Without taxidermy we wouldn't have museums. Taxidery isn't just for "display", it's also useful for education.

Lupen202 In reply to 1BlackWolf1 [2011-06-22 01:11:04 +0000 UTC]

Why? As I've explained in the description population control is needed... it does more good than harm.

More wolves than there should be = more disputes between ranchers/people because of them coming into residential areas, and more fights between other wolves over resources. And before long, elk and other prey species of the wolf's numbers will get way too low... Elk numbers are already low due to the overpopulation of wolves.

i'm not going to say anything o-o it will just sound annoying...i don't like any dead thing- like skeletons skin etc. they are creepy

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Lupen202 In reply to 1BlackWolf1 [2011-06-22 01:24:41 +0000 UTC]

Eh I can understand that... but taxidermy really is just leather with the fur left on, mounted onto a foam base. The eyes aren't real, there isn't any bones inside, etc. But I used to be grossed out by this kind of stuff too believe it or not... so I do still understand.

I'd consider myself the luckiest to have something like this.

Lupen202 In reply to Lone-Wolf-XIII [2011-06-21 23:45:51 +0000 UTC]

He was actually pretty cheap, for a lifesize wolf anyways... think he was around $900 + shipping (which was another $100 or so due to the size). I've seen some taxidermy-quality wolf pelts go for almost $1000... and my wolf rug was a lot more expensive too.

Lone-Wolf-XIII In reply to Lupen202 [2011-06-21 23:47:53 +0000 UTC]

That is nice.
Damn I wish I had money cuz I'd get a wolf pelt in a heart beat.

Lupen202 In reply to Lone-Wolf-XIII [2011-06-21 23:58:36 +0000 UTC]

Hideandfur.com has some pretty cheap wolf pelts right now. Some under $200, if you want to save up for one maybe you'd be able to afford one of those? Even if they might not have feet they're still gorgeous. And I think Glacierwear.com also has some nice ones...

Sadly wolf pelts, unless you're extremely lucky, don't come much cheaper than that though.

Yeah, it's a lot to get them cremated and then have the right animal come back to you. It sucks.
Its okay though, I've already got 1/4 of the price.

Thanks for the support though ^^
