Okay... I'll try to slow down on these now D: Though there's one more character I kinda wanna add, but I have yet to draw him.

Anyhoo, holy crap! Thar be a last name in them that hills! Yeah.... I should probably give one to Tali too, shouldn't I? heh.... I'm horrible with last names....

Meet Isabel "Bella" Rophan. Props if you get the name reference.

Bella's not a monster, she's your average human... well... if you average human takes care of a ragtag group of Chimeras.

You know those creepy creatures that voodoo witches, magic store shopkeepers, necromancers and other questionable magicy types sometimes have as pets? You know, like multi-eyed lizards or strange little bat gryphons? Well where do you think they get such things? From people who create, breed, and sell them of course.

Bella's family used to be greatly respected for their well-blended creations. But for the last few generations they seem to have hit a bit of a slump. The business is currently run by Bella's mother, who had hoped to be succeeded by her daughter, but Bella had no interest in taking over the family business and trying to once again corner the market in freaks of nature. Besides, Bella found the whole thing rather disgusting, as most of the chimera's created did not survive, and Bella had a soft spot for animals.

Bella basically left her mother to her chimera creating and went about trying to lead a normal life. But this changed when she heard about her mother's latest failed attempt to create a dragon-chimera; with the loyalty and behavioral patterns of a canine, and hotter flames than normal. The creature was a runt, sickly, with a stunted wing and a deformed foot, not as bad as some of the creatures that had been put down, but definitely not profitable.

Bella, who had been studying to become a vet and was starting to get tired of seeing her mother kill countless failed creations, decided to do something. She convinced her mother to give her the chimera, and nursed the creature back to health and raised it, affectionately dubbing the little dragon-chimera "Hephaestus".

Since then Bella has moved away from home, adopted six other chimeras, and dropped out of university, giving up her dream of becoming a vet to take care of her freaks of nature (for now, at least). She currently works as an at home telemarketer, and utterly hates her job, she also occasionally gets money from her mom to help pay for the chimeras. She requires a lot of coffee to get her through the week, and often stays in her pajamas all day long, finding it too much trouble to bother getting dressed in the morning when she already has to take care of her pets and make her calls.

She moved to Bridgeport hoping to get away from the crazy monster creating of her mother and live someplace normal. She kinda picked the wrong town for that... but as far as Bella's concerned Bridgeport is normal, as Bella doesn't know anything about the monster halfway home or just how many monsters are in Bridgeport! This is due in part because most people think she's just another normal person, so there's no reason for anyone 'in the know' to approach her and tell her about the halfway home, and also in part because she's pretty much a shut in, only leaving her house to do her grocery shopping (her Chimeras and phone calls keep her pretty busy at home).

The Chimeras

Hephaestus
'Heph' for short, he's a sweetie and acts as a sort of guard dog, making sure nobody who shouldn't be in the house comes in, and making sure none of the Chimeras manage to get out. He was a runt and has a stunted wing and a deformed foot, he walks with a limp. He can breath blue flames, but only in small bursts as it hurts his throat.

He's named after a Greek god who had a lame foot.

Irwin
Irwin was a good mix, he's fast on land and even faster in the water, and very acrobatic. Only one problem: he has the IQ of a brick. This was quickly realized by Bella's mother, who promptly gave him to her daughter. He's very happy and hyperactive, he also has a habit of chewing on things.

He's named in memory of Steve Irwin.

Leviticus
Levi for short, Levi is a hybrid of bat and bird (mainly hummingbird it would seem). Unfortunately, Levi ended up with poor eyesight, VERY photosensitive eyes, and no ability for echolocation whatsoever. This results in the poor dear being practically blind. Levi has a habit of flying into things; walls, windows, other chimeras.....

Levi is named Leviticus because there is a verse in Leviticus in which bats are included as birds, and Levi's a bird bat hybrid, plus it just seems to fit.

Toby
Toby is a very obese toad-like creature, he has no legs and spends most of his days watching the world go by from his cozy little fishbowl, which is starting to get cramped as he won't stop growing! He'll eat just about anything, so Bella keeps him in the kitchen and gives him scraps when she prepares meals and uses him to dispose of any food that's starting to go bad. He has no teeth though, so everything has to be cut up into chunks small enough for him to swallow whole. He's very quiet and is a good listener, Bella often unloads her problems on him when she begins to feel stressed.

Toby was named because Bella, unable to think of a name, was just calling him "too Obese". It eventually got shortened to "Toby"

Hades
Hades is a swan... with porcupine quills, and he will use said quills without warning or provocation. He is MEAN! Bella keeps him locked in one of the bathrooms (her house has two, one is joined on to her room) but she often gets attacked when she goes to feed him or clean the bathroom.

Hades gender is unknown as nobody can get anywhere near him without him going berserk, Bella assumes he/she's male as most of the chimeras are. (She doesn't know the reason for this) Bella was originally planning on naming him a gender neutral name, but ended up calling him Hades because he's evil.

Seb, Bert, and Rusty
The result of an attempt by Bella's mom to create creatures with multiple heads. It didn't quite work out and all three head face different directions, they can never seem to agree or work together and can never decide which way to go. Each head has it's own personality and Bella gave them each different coloured collars to help her tell who's who. It may not be clear in the picture, but Seb, Bert and Rusty each control two legs, so there's six legs and three heads all facing different directions.

Named by taking the word "Cerberus" and picking a name for each head that's similar to each syllable.

Oisín
the most recent addition to the gang, Oisín is a very timid creature and is very skittish, his vocal chords are messed up and as a result he can't make any sound. He has three eyes and is blind in two of them (the two white eyes on the right side of his face). His legs are very weak, thus he has trouble supporting himself and often falls over. Bella thinks this might be due in part to the large, heavy antler growing out of his shoulder, but with him so skittish she doesn't want to risk coming at him with a saw or pair of hedge clippers to cut it off. His tail is a double headed snake, the two heads are attached at the back of their skull, so the face opposite directions at all times. One of the snake heads has fangs, but no venom; the other has venom, but no fangs. He takes up a lot of room and Bella's sometimes tempted to put him in the shed in the backyard, but it's very run down and she doesn't have the heart. As is, he generally hangs out in the laundry room, he seems to like the smell of detergent and bounce sheets. She feeds him grass from her overgrown lawn, foliage from the nearby forest, and lots and lots of bird seed (which he loves).

Oisín means "little deer" in old Irish, and in legend Oisín was a hero and a poet.

Other

Bastet

Sometimes called just "Bast" or "Hopalong", Bastet's not a Chimera, she's a cat that Bella found badly injured by the tracks. Bastet is missing two legs, has a hole in one ear, and appears to have broken her tail at some point, regardless she carries herself like a goddess and is justly named.

Bastet is named for the Egyptian cat goddess, she appears to be an Egyptian mau/Tabby hybrid.

Fun Facts!

- Bella is a caffeine addict, a big one
- Bella hates her job
- She often stays in her pajamas all day long.
- she does not know about Marlene's halfway home
- Bastet may have been injured by one of the towns resident monsters
- Bella often gets frustrated with Oisín, as when he attempts to move to a different part of the house it's very slow going, and he's big and gets in the way.
- Hades swims in the tub in the bathroom, Bella filled it up for him before she locked him in there, and she refills it every time she cleans the bathroom
- Bella once tried to drug Hades to make him fall asleep so she could clean the bathroom, but Hades didn't eat the food and attacked her when she opened the door. Now she just feeds him lots to make him slightly more docile when it comes time to clean the bathroom.
- it took Irwin over 30 attempts to follow Bella into the bathroom when she was feeding Hades to learn that it was a bad idea, that's how dense he is.
- Bella wishes she could tell people to just hang up as soon as she calls them, and save both herself and the person on the other end of the phone the aggravation.

Wow, she's really interesting!! I like how she takes care of little monsters, and how they've all got really significant names!

(I'm an English major so I find that exciting)

Toby is definitely my favourite

Thank you so much!

I like putting a little meaning behind the names of all my characters XD

XD I'm personally quite fond of Oisín, but Toby is definitely up there in my favourites, he's so mellow.... and squishy XD

Thank you! They were fun to design, especially Oisín XD big conglomerate mass of 'sin against nature'... but a sweet sin against nature.... who likes to sniff bounce sheets 8D

It would be cool to see them photomanipulated O-o

I might want Cyru to meet Isabel. How would you feel about interacting in some way?

As of right now Cyru is "out of the loop" too, but that might change if Vamoki ever writes anything more about Alex.

That might be cool, Bella does have a soft spot for chimeras obviously

Though Bella rarely gets out, she generally only leaves to do the grocery shopping, but that might be enough for her to run into other characters

If she comes out so rarely, is it possible for someone who was new to the area to think no one actually lives there? Or that whoever does live there isn't there right now?

Maybe, although this is a pretty big maybe, Cyru would break in if it thought it wasn't going to run into anyone/anything or make someone mad.

Of course, then the chimeras would probably attack Cyru, and Isabel wouldn't be kindly disposed toward a burglar. So that would be bad.

...Why do all the ideas I come up with involve poor Cyru being terrorized? I need to think up some nicer ones.

That's a very big possibility, considering she Bella doesn't really get out to take care of her lawn or yard (it's overgrown, but she kinda likes it that way because she can just go out and pick some grass to give to Oisín to get something other than bird seed in his diet) And a couple of the windows are boarded up (mainly the rooms where the chimera's are most of the time, that way no one can just look in and see a big ol' deer thing with scales and feathers, and to prevent the Chimeras getting out) So does kinda look abandoned.

If Cyru broke in, it would probably be Hephaestus who would notice and alert Bella, as he's sort of the "guard dog", and he wouldn't really attack so much as incapacitate and intimidate (he's too nice to attack). Only Hades would really do damage, and he's locked in the bathroom. The rest of the Chimeras are kind of inept, so really only Heph would respond to a break in, and maybe Bastet.

Okay, sounds like a plan. I'm glad Cyru wouldn't get beat up.

So... how do we go about this? I'm better at writing than I am at drawing, but I'm passable as a visual artist and open to anything. It looks to me like you're pretty good at both. It'd be cool if we did some sort of collaborative project, but I'm fine with doing something on my own or giving you permission to use Cyru in something you want to do.

Oooh, you know what might be cool? A piece of prose with an illustration!

LuvianBlue In reply to Kirel-Kemmetmau [2008-07-08 17:33:00 +0000 UTC]

That would be cool

Well, maybe we could either do something like.... each of us draw a picture of write the reaction of our own character when they meet, or you could write the prose for when they meet and I draw the picture or something.

I'm a bit fond of the first idea, but I'm cool with whatever

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Kirel-Kemmetmau In reply to LuvianBlue [2008-07-08 20:31:45 +0000 UTC]

So the picture part for the first idea would be like... a visual RP, sort of? I like both parts of the first idea, but some clarification would be nice.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LuvianBlue In reply to Kirel-Kemmetmau [2008-07-08 23:15:09 +0000 UTC]

Ummm... I was thinking more just along the lines of drawing or writing our own idea of what their first reaction would be like, or something along those lines.

But by visual roleplay, I'm guessing you mean one of us draw their picture/writes their story first, then the other draws/writes what happens afterwards?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Kirel-Kemmetmau In reply to LuvianBlue [2008-07-09 00:38:15 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, that's sort of what I was guessing it meant, but that's just because I'm still not clear on what your idea is. (Bear with me, I'm slow.) How would we work on it together? Or do you mean that each of us does one?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LuvianBlue In reply to Kirel-Kemmetmau [2008-07-09 00:46:38 +0000 UTC]

You're not slow, it's good to clarify things first so there's no confusion later

Well, my first suggestion was we each do our own interpretation of the first meeting, with our own character's reaction (it would be interesting to see what matched and what was different between the two ideas) and my second suggestion was we work on it together and one person writes while the other draws.

That's just my suggestions, I'm cool with whatever if you have any other ideas

Kirel-Kemmetmau In reply to LuvianBlue [2008-07-09 00:53:55 +0000 UTC]

I just sent you a now pointless note. Sorry about that.

While I'm adding yet another comment anyway, I like the first one, but I have something to add to it. What if we each wrote our own, showed them to each other, then meshed the two together?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LuvianBlue In reply to Kirel-Kemmetmau [2008-07-09 01:53:36 +0000 UTC]

No Worries, I don't mind conversations happing via comments, besides, the deviation is for Bridgeport and we're talking about Bridgeport stuffs, so no worries

That's a cool idea, then we get the best of both worlds.

Not really It just started out as being a girl with a couple of deformed chimeras and.... sort of snowballed.

I had to force myself to stop making chimeras D:

Never do that. Chimeras are cooool. I want one.

LuvianBlue In reply to CrazySwedishGirl [2008-07-08 17:12:31 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, but if I kept making them, I'd have to find some way to stuff them all into Bella's house, and her house isn't that big!

I agree, Chimeras are cool.

CrazySwedishGirl In reply to LuvianBlue [2008-07-10 19:14:19 +0000 UTC]

She could always ask people at the Halfway home to take them on? Or does she even know about the Halfway home?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LuvianBlue In reply to CrazySwedishGirl [2008-07-10 19:24:07 +0000 UTC]

She doesn't know about the halfway home currently, She rarely ever leaves her house except to go grocery shopping, and plus she's just a normal human (with some strange pets), so none of those 'in the know' have a reason to inform her of the halfway home.

But if her mom keeps sending her more defunct chimeras, she may have to find some people willing to adopt a few of them D: (but not any of the original seven, I like them too much XD )

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

CrazySwedishGirl In reply to LuvianBlue [2008-07-10 22:12:08 +0000 UTC]

Just call me if you need to find some adopters!

LuvianBlue In reply to CrazySwedishGirl [2008-07-11 05:31:50 +0000 UTC]

Heh, if Bella eventually ends up in the know, she'll probably be desperately attempting to unload some of the chimeras her mother sends her, so I'll try to remember to keep your Sally on the top of the list, it certainly looks like she could use a pet to keep her company (even if that pet is something of a sin against nature )

I like her and the whole fact that she isn't a monster and is "out of the loop". The creatures are very creative and a little bit like "The Land of Misfit Toys". And the whole Telamarketer thing is quite intresting, certanly makes for intresting conversations.

Your very welcome, I could certanly see her getting into a conversation with Cut and Paste over the phone (the only time when someone can talk to both at the same time in the same place). I also must say that Seb Burt and Rusty looks like my dog Pep, except for the fact that Pep only has one head.

LuvianBlue In reply to Gattlin [2008-07-08 18:23:00 +0000 UTC]

They can both talk over the phone? Why is that?

Cute, I was just trying to make them look sort of like a Daschund, I think I failed a bit, but it's neat that they resemble your dog

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Gattlin In reply to LuvianBlue [2008-07-08 18:55:19 +0000 UTC]

Well, they can both talk over the phone is because they only need to change voice and personality, not the look of their body. I mean, because you don't get to see them they don't have to worry about her noticing that they are one and the same.
Also, my dog is a Dashund, so maybe that's why they look like my dog.
