Description For the very interesting monster collaboration; Bridgeport.

As soon as I found this interesting little community my head was filled with all sorts of monstery little critters just begging to be set loose. So of course I had to pick the most complicated one to create first (I just love making things difficult for myself, don't I? Or maybe it's just because I've been drawing a lot of ungulates lately....)

Anyhoo, meet Cerin. Is that her real name? Maybe, maybe not, no one really knows. Well... except Cerin herself perhaps, but even that is debatable.

Cerin's got this nasty little habit of turning into a strange kirin-like creature every night when the sun sets; and, depending on the phase of the moon, this kirin-like creature might heal you.... or maul you into a grotesque, squishy puddle. Yay!

Okay.... maybe a bit more explanation is needed here XD

Cerin is a bit of a mystery. She's not exactly all there in the head if ya know what I mean. She wandered into the town of Bridgeport one day, but doesn't seem very inclined to tell others exactly where she came from (though it's unsure whether she actually could tell people where she came from. She's got big gaping holes in her memory, and sometimes when asked a question she just sort of goes blank and becomes unresponsive.) During the day she can generally be found in back alleyways, or searching through dumpsters. She's homeless.

As stated earlier, every night she turns into a strange kirin-like creature. On the nights leading up to the full moon she's that smaller, white one depicted in the picture. During this time she seems to be able to sense pain, and thus feels the need to try and heal others in an attempt to stop the pain. As the full moon nears, her ability to sense pain is heightened, and thus she feels a greater need to heal people. on the night of the full moon she basically goes berserk, feeling every little bit of agony for a fair distance around her (reaches across approx. half the town). At this point she generally moves towards where the pain is most concentrated: the hospital. Getting in is kinda tricky, but on rare occasions she can manage it without being seen. At the very least she may heal people leaving or entering the place, or even attempt to heal someone through a window. She then spends long hours desperately trying to help anyone and everyone, and draining herself of strength to the point where she's barely able to drag herself around, half conscious, only aware of the pain and the need to stop it.

I should probably mention at this point that she may have healing abilities, but she's not some miracle machine. She can't cure cancer or AIDs, or stop internal bleeding. Smaller wounds she can fix, but the most she can do for more serious problems is slow the disease down, or help heal some of the damage, which may be enough to help save someone, but generally it only delays the inevitable. But the fact that she CAN'T save them, doesn't mean she doesn't TRY to save them. Which is part of the reason she gets so exhausted, spending her energy on an impossible task.

After the full moon, Cerin's mental state declines. Before this point she may be a little out of it, but she's generally kind, though rather shy and quiet, but as the new moon nears she becomes more and more violent, and the nightly form shifts to a darker, more sinister look. She's still rather quiet during this times, and avoids people, though the reasons for doing so become more out of disdain for others than for any sort of shyness on her part. During this time she will attack people- particularly the weak and injured, she tends to leave stronger people alone- mauling them. On the night of the new moon she specifically seeks out those that she has helped on the full moon, and attacks them.

When she wakes up the next morning after the new moon, she tends to have forgotten most of what happened over the previous month. It's not that the memories are gone, exactly, sometimes memories will come back to her at random moments, only to be forgotten again some time later. She also tends to retain more important memories; for example, she knows that she transforms every night, and that she should cover up her horn, and she'll remember routes she walked over and over, but she may not remember a person she met or a place she's visited. As a result, she's unaware of the halfway home most of the time, she's heard about it only twice, and that wasn't enough to make it stick in her memory. Sometimes she'll randomly remember it, but she rarely goes there due to her general avoidance of other people.

She remembers everything that happens when she transforms (well, until the moon cycle starts over again anyways) but when the new moon nears she doesn't feel guilt or a need to lock herself away to protect others, because she still has many aspects of the violent personality during the day, and she simply doesn't care if she hurts people at that time. Poor Cerin is rarely in the state of mind to fully understand that the whole "changing into a horse thing that either heals pointlessly to the point where Cerin is half dead, or goes on a slaughtering rampage" is a serious problem. Like I said: she's not all there in the head. She understands enough to keep it secret, but not to seek out help. Even in her kirin-like form she has enough wits about her to know not to run about willy nilly and let anybody see her, because she understands enough to know that getting caught = bad; either because others might try to prevent her from trying to heal people, or because others might try to stop her from attacking people. Also in these forms she still carries her shyness/disdain for other people.

Fun Facts!

- It's unknown how Cerin ended up this way, if she was born this way, if she was cursed, if it's some sort of lycanthropy. Cerin herself doesn't remember, sometimes if asked this question she goes into one of her blank states and doesn't come out of it for a long while.
- If Cerin's problem is some sort of lycanthropy, it doesn't spread,or at the very least it hasn't spread so far, and Cerin's attacked a fair number of people.
- Cerin doesn't remember how old she is, sometimes 'memories' she recalls seem to point to her being around for quite some time (couple of centuries perhaps?) though it's uncertain if these are actual memories, or if she's simply confusing things she read out of textbooks with memories.
- Cerin's name is pronounced with a soft 'C', so it's like "Serin"
- Cerin prefers skirts to pants, and doesn't particularly like wearing shoes.
- Cerin might be crazy, but she's sneaky. And she has enough of her mind to understand that people finding out about her little nightly problem would be bad. Sometimes the news might report some recent "deer attacks", but that's about all.
- it is as of yet unknown how lunar eclipses might affect her

In other news: I FAIL clothing, I wanted her clothes to look somewhat makeshift, like old blankets tied around her waist in skirts and such. But they look too much like medieval-ish peasant rags than they do modern, homeless, make-shift garb to me. D: LAME!

My sister's been complaining about how long it's been taking me to write this, so I'll end it now... it IS pretty long after all.....

EVIL UNICORN!!!
Seriously though, an evil unicorn, that's just AWSOME. It's very original and slightly demonic, I also like the character concept in itself.

I couldn't resist when it said to go nuts if you could think up a dark and freaky way to pull off unicorns or fairies

Thank you very much for the comment.

Yah, I wasn't creative enough to do somthing dark and creepy like that, so instead I have a possesed lawyer with a duel personality disorder.
I was thinking about trying to do somthing dark with fairies, but I keep comming up with a blank.

I think your character is very creative, demon possessing weaker personality to infect the entire person is a cool concept in my mind

Ah, then you clearly haven't heard of the old European fairies, they weren't the playful little winged people you think of today, those things could be downright mean! Inspiring artists at the cost of the artist's soul, replacing babies with changelings, spiriting away people who stepped into fairy rings.

If only I could find a way to show that on the outside. But the whole stealing inspiring artists in the cost of the soul, very intresting.

Well some were very ugly, gnomes and trolls and such were included as fairy folk. But many were beautiful, just very mean

Leanan Sidhe was the one who inspired artists and sucked their life/soul away. Many artists died young or took their own lives, so I suppose the myth of Leanan Sidhe might have been a way of explaining this.

Hey, wow. That's a really neat idea for a character, and I dig the creature designs. I especially like the texture of her scales. (:

yup, those are kirins, well.... based on kirins... Generally kirins are "too gentle to even hurt a fly, tred lightly so as not to crush the grass the walk upon, etc. etc." whereas this lady'd kill ya, yay! 8D

Thanks for the comment! :-D
