i was pretty happy when i rendered this on my dualcore in 2006

I didn't get my first dualcore till 2007...

lyc In reply to Jason-C [2012-01-26 00:42:40 +0000 UTC]

i got my current i7 quadcore in 2008, this year i'll get the 8 core / 16 thread 64gb memory box and go apeshit with the 3d fractals.

Jason-C In reply to lyc [2012-01-26 01:42:44 +0000 UTC]

I really wanna get an 8 core system. I was very disapointed when I found out Intel Ivy Bridge is only going to be 4 core, with the rest of the die wasted on a crappy gpu. I think servers are the only real option for 8 core, what setup are you getting? How much you paying?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

lyc In reply to Jason-C [2012-01-26 01:43:48 +0000 UTC]

socket 2011, paying lots, as it was with socket 1366 in 2008. it's really the motherboard and 8gb dimms that are expensive.

Well I hope you realise how jealous I am. I'm stuck with my Q6600 and 8gb ram for the foreseeable future.

when you're coding on 3d renderers all day, you can justify it too

Oh snap, is it only available digitally? I'm investigating this whole "singularity" thing now..

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

lyc In reply to Nickmeister [2010-12-27 05:44:57 +0000 UTC]

i bought the book for my stepdad for christmas it's available for free online.

the singularity is among the most compelling possibilities for a non-dystopian (i.e. utopian) future of humanity, in which we all transcend this squishy substrate to become a combined post-human entity, that hopefully gets to see the end of the universe through acting in unison towards a common destiny (at fucking last! certainly the present political system won't get us there...)

btw, i'm moving to newcastle, england next year. i still hold ambitions of doing some media work together someday, the realistic chance of which seems to be improving

Nickmeister In reply to lyc [2011-01-02 15:50:02 +0000 UTC]

Ooh yes I found it on amazon!

Yeah, it sure is a nicer idea than political rape.
I cant wait for a fire upon the deep to pop through the post box, its way late already.

Cool, what are you going to be doing in Newcastle? By next year do you mean this year? Happy new year btw!

the demos is amazing, I thought it made by Conspiracy.

this one looks like a bunch of burning plastic...

lyc In reply to silencefreedom [2010-01-25 10:43:28 +0000 UTC]

hmm, i don't really like conspiracy's demos that much... they are very good, but in the demoscene there are better guys for sure

silencefreedom In reply to lyc [2010-01-25 23:55:15 +0000 UTC]

Farbrausch, Loonies, RGBA and TBC are my favorite groups. Loonies's style is different than others though. I actually met one of their group's member in BP 2007, yeah, he's the amazing coder.

conspiracy's good in design and stuff, music. But you must see the "Chaos Theory", it's their best demos.

btw, all the devs in my gallery were made with (only) my programs.

you're one of the people i would've liked to beta test my new flame rendering app, but development on that has stalled with this new 3d renderer i might pick it up again after exams finish in november.

it's rendered with my old 3d fractal rendering app, from june/july 2006 (when i first started collaborating with *Aexion ). you can check a render made with my new one here: [link] (my next deviation is gonna rock it, which is why that one is in scraps )

anyways thx for the fav mate!

sorry, the variations in my scraps are for the other image in the series (a deepness in the sky). it's also made with the same program though, and the two scenes are related.

lyc In reply to Phoenix-22 [2006-11-05 18:26:55 +0000 UTC]

thanks, it's a (3d) fractal. hope to code my next generation 3d fractal renderer (a ray tracer) before too long, but there's a ton of other stuff to do now that my uni year is over...
