So I was looking for pictures of those Chinese lion dancer guys (the guys who wear those lion costumes and dance around) and found this blurb on a wiki article"During the 1950s-60's, people who joined lion dance troupes were “gangster-like” and there was a lot of fighting amongst lion dance troupes and kung fu schools. Parents were afraid to let their children join lion dance troupes because of the “gangster” association with the members. During festivals and performances, when lion dance troupes met, there would be fights between groups. Some lifts and acrobatic tricks are designed for the lion to “fight” and knock over other rival lions. Performers even hid daggers in their shoes and clothes, which could be used to injure other lion dancers’ legs, or even attached a metal horn on their lion’s forehead, which could be used to slash other lion heads."
I thought it would be rad to draw up some crazy military version of one of them and this is the result

Son...hot damn, this is awesome. This is the kinda stuff that platinum is made of. you should scoot more away from the military side and focus more more towards the dragon dancer concept. and then hold a "Dragon Dancers" contest to see what other ideas sprout when people see this image. I personally think its awesomely original, and would love to see more.

Dude this is fucking RAD! I just went to the New Year's celebration in Chinatown and I've been trying to simplify those dragons for like weeks now.. you've done a really marvellous job of making a new twist on an old design. Love this, great work

Ive always been a fan of the aesthetic of Chinese lions/dragons etc.
i'd never heard about the gangster aspect though, I learn something new every day!

The boots are what really kick this picture up from "neat concept" to "totally awesome" for me.

I like the multi-jointed armor segments of the main body, but I think the eyes could use a little more differentiation from the face’s material. This would make an interesting team game, I think.

I remember over hearing that a while ago from the lion-dance troupe segment of my martial arts studio, but I don't think it ever got that militaristic.

Well, actually I knew about before i knew about . I only knew about lenko when I happened upon his Rocket Crotch series on NG, than to my surprise, he was on DA as well!
