TL, DR : Gabriel grew up trying to fit himself as a genius as his parents tell him to so they can use him to climb up the social ladder. Sent home and parents stop talking to him because they think he's a failure. Gabriel then says screw it and went to focus on retrying to become part of the Nohrian army and make his own success. It works and he also learned to enjoy life along the way, maybe a little too much, turning him into the Gabriel everyone sees today.

Childhood :
Gabriel is the oldest of 3 siblings born to a normal, middle class family in Nohr. Though his parents had always wished, hungered even, to move up in terms of status. Not being able to achieve it through their own means in their own young life, they sought to move up using their children. As a child, his parents often tried to pass him off as a genius, though he was unremarkable when compared to other children his age. This took a toll on Gabriel as he was told that the greatest gift he could ever offer his parents was a chance to move up in the world. The young and innocent Gabriel wanted to fulfill the image that his parents always pitched to others. Gabriel's motivation was that he wanted to make his parents truly happy and even set an example for his younger siblings. He started to force himself to read. All sorts of literature, each one more difficult than the one that came before. Gabriel had also took up art and speech to fill in his time. He forced a strict discipline on himself growing up, he'd seek out his own knowledge and ultimately wishing to become 'better'. Between attending an academy his parents worked hard to pay for and constantly trying to fit the role of a genius, there was little he could do as a young boy. Despite not liking what he's putting himself through, he denied hating his increasingly boring and wasted childhood.

Teenager :
Throughout his teenage life, Gabriel garnered a lot of praise and admiration from others, especially for his mind and charisma. He consistently was at the top of his class and always made a good impression on his friends and instructors. Life seemed to go perfectly for Gabriel, but inside, he had an identity crisis. He couldn't remember a time where he made a choice to benefit himself or take it easy. Pitiful, really. During this time in his life, he had dedicated most of his lifetime to his studies and trying desperately to claw his way up the social ladder for his parents, for THEIR ultimate happiness. It was also around this time that he decided that joining the Nohrian army would be his next stepping tone. He thought that having a good reputation and being well educated will give him some sort of advantage. With recommendations and connections, it wasn't hard for him to start as a recruit.

This sudden change from the pen to the sword has it's drawbacks, of course. Gabriel's strength and stamina were unremarkably low, and everything he did, he had to try twice as hard as others to complete. It was in the army that his image of a genius truly shattered to pieces. Gabriel couldn't keep up with the physical demands and beat himself up for his failure. It dawned on him that he wasn't even trying to fit himself into the image of a genius anymore, but rather he had expected himself to be one, to be able to excel at everything he puts his mind and body into. Stressed out beyond his limits, Gabriel's emotions exploded after hearing another one of the countless lectures from his higher ups. Gabriel talked back and spilled every bad and ridiculous things he had always wanted to say his whole life. The captain in charge of his unit was offended and disgusted by his sudden lack of respect, sending Gabriel packing and deemed unfit to be drafted in his current state.

He came home to disappointed parents. They didn't want to talk to him. They only wanted to support him when he obeyed and did good things. Suddenly, his home felt cold, and even his siblings began to distance themselves from him. But Gabriel realized, that spilling his thoughts and directing his anger at the captain at the time was oddly refreshing. It was the feeling he had been looking for, a feeling of breaking himself from the restraints that is his parents' desires to use him to climb up in status. Now a young adult, Gabriel kept what he learned in his head but directed his focus completely on rejoining the Nohrian army as a changed man. He turned to training his body so that he would better suit the harsh lifestyle of a soldier. From now on, his own decisions are the only thing that matters to him. With that, also came the thirst of living life completely unrestrained after holding back for pretty much a good chunk of his entire life. Gabriel learned to have fun and enjoyed himself in the short amount of time leading to the next part of his life.

Undergoing intense training, with his parents giving up on him and his siblings growing further apart from him, changed his outlook on life drastically. He decided that he'll be an accomplished man in his own terms rather than try to sell himself to others via a slew of unrealistic expectations. He rejoined the Nohrian army as a recruit once more. Gabriel also learned that failure doesn't mean the end of his journey. As to why he wanted to try for the army again? He could honestly no longer deny that he was amazed by the sheer power and intimidating looks of a knight, and that he decided it's what he wanted to be. It might have started out as a decision made on a whim, but one he never regretted making.

Adult :
His hard work and dedication eventually paid off, he was 21 when he was drafted into the army officially as one of Nohr's many knights. Gabriel is proud of the decision he made to become a knight. In the process of becoming one, he learned to balance his lifestyle between being serious and focused within a professional setting and living the way he wants to outside of it. Swearing loyalty to Nohr, he vows to uphold his responsibilities and honor as a knight while loving life as much as the next person. It's been six years since that day, and Gabriel is still fighting and defending for Nohr.

Current Situation :
He's heard that Nohr's leader Adeline and the Hoshidan leader Tomoyo were negotiating peace talks when they presumably died in an explosion set by an unknown individual or individuals. Gabriel resisted the urge to to try to point his fingers at anyone, knowing that the tension and sense of distrust is at an all time high. Even within Nohr itself, he wouldn't really put anyone past attempting to betray their own country and cause war. It's a cause for concern, and he feels that the morale of the troops seem to fluctuate out of control at any given time. He tries to keep positive, somewhat.

I do rps in Discord and Gdocs. DA notes are okay too but i rarely get back to it.
