Description One of my partials got cancelled and I had to celebrate
So I decided to do a little re-done of an old pic.

I called it the biggest passion because not only is the traditional beverage of the 3 countries, but because it is also very, very widely spread. For Argentines and Uruguayans it is a real addiction, and Paraguayans cant imagine their lives without it either, so one could say it is a passion ( even bigger than football, without a doubt, and that deserves merith ).
As a funny curiousity, none of them will ever agree on which is better, tough Tereré is probably the most accepted.
--- Neither Argentines in general nor Paraguayans stand the Uruguayan Boiled variety. They say it burns the yerba and kills the good qualities. Uruguayans will usually defend themselves saying that´s what the herbs stand for.
--- Both Uruguayans and Paraguayans usually agree in that the Argentine yerba has way too many sticks, making it extra bitter. Argentines, and especially provincianos, will always defend themselves saying it takes guts to stand it.
--- Everyone agree that the Porteño sweet variety is the worst, saying that the sugar kills the flavour of the yerba. Porteños defend themselves saying that it is not really sweet but bittersweet, or that they drink it that way because it is more romantic, better suit to share in couples. Ironically, they always get called "unmanly" for that last reason.

My personal favourite is the Bitter variety.
What´s yours?

"two base spoons of sugar, and may add more later"
Dang, Porteno. That's a serious sweet tooth you've got there.

True. I'm a sugar nut myself, so if I buy the Yerba Mate from the pharmacy near my house, (It comes in teabags though) chances are I'd put sugar too XD. Although a website I found did say it had a similar taste to coffee so I might be able to drink it without sugar since I am able to take coffee without sugar. To be honest, though, I'll raise you something far worse-Yerba Mate with milk. (yes, that was seriously suggested as a way to drink the mate on the box itself ) Prepare for the diarrhea with this one! ( I imagine that both brothers would get awfully sick from that)
Also, Portenos add honey to the mate if they're proposing to their girlfriends, right? Imagine if the girl was from the provinces. That would absolutely suck...

JAJAJAJA xD I knew we sold yerba to some Asian countries but never thought it´d even reach Singapour.
And no Yerba mate has some caffeine ( it will keep you awake for even longer than coffee ) but the taste is nothing like that. Its more like tea, and some people cataloge it as tea as well.
I knew Mate-with-milk, we usually give them to children when they´re missing some nutrients, and poor families give them it as a meal replacement ( for adults it means a monumental diarrhea but its good for kids ). Some people say it cleans your stomach after you´ve eaten junk food or something toxic, a fast solution for the stomach ache.
Actually, no xD We Provincianos are faaaaar more deep with those xD
How we do prepare it has a lot of meannings:
www.taringa.net/post/recetas-y…
And what we add too:
archivo.losandes.com.ar/notas/…
Some may change between the city and the provinces, but we all know that a non standar mate means something to watch out

Oh oops. My bad on the diarrhea joke there. I thought it didn't match at first though, but thanks for informing me!  Also, I think I know what to get now when studying for my exams XD. Never know when you'll need to pull an all-nighter. I've always heard portenos never really sleep all that much. Is this how they do it?
So in almost all the regions, honey+mate= marriage proposal? That sounds like a pretty cool thing to me! From the website, I also noticed that people even put dulce de leche in their mate. Man, dulce de leche seems to be in practically everything in Argentina, isn't it?
Also, I think if Provinciano or Potrteno took a mate from Uruguay, would they perceive it as "hate" because it's boiled? The site said that boiled mate=hate after all, and Uruguay always drinks her mate boiled so...

Yeah, well. Mate has a con: hot water=low liquid retention.
Make sure a bathroom is nearby.
Its true. I never really understood how do they do it, but Porteños indeed dont really sleep...ever. Some say it has to do with the great nocturnal life from all kinds for all ages and likes, plus the "cortado" culture ( a cortado is a small cup of coffee with a quarter of milk and 3 spoons of sugar usually took twice a day at any random moment) but yet....idk. Poreños are simply crazy.
Yes Both are right. Nothing is complete without Dulce de Leche, and Provinces compete for which has the best recipe, though most we agree that Cordoba has indeed the best one, and the best cakes. The 3 universal things in this country are: Mate, Dulce de Leche and Empanadas.
Indeed, we loathe the Uruguayan mate variety, we think that it burns the yerba. They also remove the sticks from the yerba, so even if it wasnt boiled it would taste terrible for most of us. Then again, Uruguayans think the same in reverse about us. A "cold" mate for them is equally disrespecting. Most of us who have Uruguayan friends or family have two sets of mate kits because we can´t combine our tastes.

That cortado sounds delicious! Though, yes, that's a huge amount of sugar in one small cup. Nevertheless, I'm gonna try to make it and drink it. Though I'm unsure about what is defined as a "small cup"...Oh well.

Thats the stand size xD but it can be even smaller or a little bigger according to the place. Usually you can only use one or two fingers to hold the cup, if you can hold it with more, then its considered a double cortado , with a normal sized cup :3

That cup reminds me of those cute teacup sets. XD I'm going to try making a cortado. I'll be looking forward to it!

I've tried mate and I liked it. I've bought Yerba with some addition of lemon grass. I'm from Poland so I'm not sure if it was a real, natural yerba but anyway it was good for me.

It could be yerba and lemon trees can grow together and the leafs then go good together, so some brans sell them that way. In the Litoral Region is very common that people drink it with lemon or other cythrics.
