Description Gærn-Olaves (mad Olaves) was a vagabond who in his lifetime walked Romerike and the Mjøsa area in Norway. He wouldn't stay anywhere more than one night, and as he walked he'd talk loudly to himself, mostly cursing people who'd treated him badly (meaning they'd refused him shelter for the night). The places where he'd been well received would be praised to no end. When he came to a homestead in the evenings, he was polite and well-mannered, but in the mornings he'd say "I'm not leaving until you give me some food and coffee". When he got his breakfast, all would be well again. He died sometime in the 1930s.
