Made With Ponyscape Version 0.4"I will END YOU!!"
This is Wildfire, the Red Lantern's heaviest hitter aside Dash herself! Protector of the Red Battery and Lantern of Last Action (you don't need her until it has gotten that bad)! This shows her right before the Black Lantern attack that almost cost her life and resulted in her being reborn phoenix like in to a being of pure rage energy. Twilight Sparkle designated her an 'Omega Lantern' as those lanterns are only called off Ponyville defense as a last resort, which in Wildfire's case is good because either what needs to be taken out gets her, or she gets it, no middle ground.
This is the first drawing in AGES I've done that looked half way cool, and my second in Ponyscape ever. I did another originally for for Nightmare Night Dallas, but I lost it in the crash. This version is better as I've got constructs. I got a vector pony to use as a base (I'm sorry I don't remember where really, I'm looking... when I remember/find them I'll credit...if you know the original let me know please this is one of those things lost in the crash) and modified the ever living heck out of it. I chose Guy's first Red Lantern uniform as a base and went from there. I am still learning how to use Ponyscape (and stopped short of the full aura, still working on that). I originally wanted a construct duck but that did not happen (I'm not good enough yet). I used GiMP to turn the SVG into a PNG file.
No one has done Wildfire as a Red Lantern...which is sad as she is fueled by rage and all, you would think someone would have done it by now (I looked)...but no! So, I set out to rectify that problem.

RL Wildfire was now a living red light construct, her anger was now all that was left of her. The black lanterns had torn her body to shreds, but she had piece by piece replaced it with a red light construct until they struck the killing blow and she fought onwards.
Being a Red Lantern was all the existence she had now.
"GIVE BACK SCOOTALOO YOU BRAT! She's belongs to us!" She snarled at the little orange glowing filly.
"NO! SHE'S MINE!"
"Don't I get a say in this?" The red lantern filly pouted from her orange light cage.
RL Wildfire created a giant red paddle, OUT OF HER FORELEG, and slammed it down on AO Applebloom, who GRABBED IT. "MINE!"
RL Wildfire tried to pull away, grunted in anger, then flayed wildly as the red started to turn orange.
"AND YA DO TOO!" AO Applebloom grinned at her.
"NO!" RL Wildfire pleaded, she'd rather follow RL Rainbow Dash than be the slave of an all powerful brat, the orange spread up her arm, and finally, the living red light construct, was completely orange.

"Yer mine! Mine!"
"Wildfire." RL Scootaloo whimpered, the place where her heart used to be sinking.
"BOW!" Applebloom ordered the new Orange Lantern.
The orange lantern fidgeted.
"AH SAID BOW!"
[ = Loyalty. = ]
The orange construct flashed red, and Red Lantern Wildfire snarled at the flabbergasted filly. "NO!"
"N-no! T-that AIN'T SUPPOSED TA HAPPEN!"

From a distance, Commander Hurricane watched the ongoing battle through a pair of construct-binoculars.
"The orange one is uncontrollable for now..." he muttered. "But the other lanterns will inevitably bring her around to their side" The Black Lantern banished the binoculars. "It's a frustrating habit of theirs."
Hurricane started pacing in midair. "We need to do something to stop that from happening. Something that would make the orange lantern absolutely hate the others..." Then the pegasus caught sight of Zecora standing nearby, watching Applebloom and Wildfire fight. An idea formed in his rotted head.
"Zecora, attack the Red Lantern."
Zecora looked shocked. "What?! I will not-!"
"Ring, override Black Lantern Zecora's free will."
The undead zebra apparently retained enough of her free will to throw a few choice curses in her native tongue at Hurricane as she flew towards the other lanterns. Hurricane frowned at this. Some of the Black Lanterns were becoming a bit too independent for his liking. He was going to have to do something about it very soon...

Scootaloo meanwhile was getting annoyed at the orange construct cage kept EATING her red construct chain saws, axes, drills, and other attempts at escaping Applebloom's 'protection. Then SS Cheerilee silently floated up besides her and made a 'shush' motion and created a crystal hack-saw of love that she cut the bars of greed with.
As Applebloom threw living orange light constructs at the living red lantern construct, she spotted what was happening. "NO FAIR! SHE'S MINE!"

"No she isn't!" The symbol of avarice on her forehead (and her expression strangely look not that different from her old self), IH Diamond Tiara locked rings with Applebloom as SS Cheerilee and RL Scootaloo retreated.
"HEY! Ya can't do that!"
"I just did Applebloom."
'Now you know how I feel Orange One.' 'Thought' the undead Hurricane.
Black Zecora, obeying the command, attacked the red lantern, much to the surprise of the orange lanterns constructs.
The moment AO Applebloom laid eyes on Black Zecora however, "MAI ZOMBIE!" The black lantern found herself trapped in a cage similar to the one that had held Scootaloo.
The Black inhabiting Hurricane's corpse didn't consider that the Orange One had the power a complete corp at her command, 7200 lanterns: seven thousand two hundred.
The symbol faded from IH Diamond Tiara's forehead. "That was unexpected."

So, Cheerilee and Diamond Tiara fighting to save Scootaloo from a demented Orangebloom? Oh, this is going to be good. Though 'Bloom is only going to get even more furious at what Diamond's doing.
"AH KNEW IT! Ya want tah take my friends from me! Ah'm sorry Ah ever saved ya from Scootaloo, but Ah ain't making that mistake again." In a fury Orangebloom hurled her power at IT Diamond. SS Cheerilee and IT Diamond were barely able to turn the blast using a shield formed from both love and avarice. Just a moment long hurt showed through the sheer need on Orangebloom's face.
"You too, Miss Cheerilee? Y'all are turning on me, too?"

"I really, really REALLY HATE the irony here!!" Scootaloo hissed as she created a giant broom construct of rage that drew the orange light away from Indigo Herd Diamond Tiara and SS Cheerilee, eating up her construct. (She was going to need to recharge soon).
"I don't let you hurt Diamond Tiara Applebloom." Scootaloo said not believing herself what she was saying.
"WHAT?! SCOOTALOO HOW CAN YA?"
"She helped me . . . I'm not gonna stab 'er in the back."

Orangebloom's eyes went wide, and then narrowed as she said with an almost serpentine hiss. "Stab her in th' back?" She hurled another energy blast at the three Lanterns, one weaker then before. Unnoticed by SS Cheerilee and IT Diamond Tiara, an orange pitchfork began to form behind and above DeeTee, angled downwards.
Sootaloo half snarled, half spat, "No!"
"Yes!" Orangebloom simply gave her a sneering smile as the construct weapon plunged down towards IT Diamond Tiara's back. "Thanks for th' idea, 'friend'."

Scootaloo was fast, very, and just managed to grab the pitch forked hold it back, WITH HER LITTLE BARE HOOVES, "I bucking said no!"
"HEY! That's no fair!"
Scootaloo asked, "Applebloom . . . if I come with you . . . will you stop all this?"

Orangebloom's eyes narrowed. "If ya come with me, I promise Ah won't kill nopony here for trying ta take one o' mah friends away from me."
"Scootaloo, don't!" Cheerilee said. She turned and set herself between Diamond Tiara and the energy construct. "Applebloom, stop this! You were always such a generous filly..." She recoiled as Orangbloom spun on her.
"Yah, an' look where that got me! Mah sister and brother abandoned me, one o' mah friends almost got killed, and y'all are fightin' me ta make sure Ah can't even keep Scootaloo around!" She raised her ring high, eyes glazing over as she looked at it. "Y'all are jealous because Ah'm a whole Corps my own self. Y' want what AH got, my precious ring, but Ah won't let ya have it!" She glared at them and lashed out with a construct formed like her big brother, provided one ignored the snaggled teeth, that charged at Cheerilee and forced her back. "Now get away from me!"

SS Cheerilee, "Big mac please tell me that isn't really you."
"No it isn't him. Her brother is fine. That's just a construct." Said IH Diamond Tiara. "Thankfully."

"Darn ya, pay attention tah ME!" Orangebloom hurled the construct at both mare and filly. It charged them, snorting and stamping, mad as any feral stallion. Cheerilee hurled up a crystal shield, only to fly back out of range with a whinny as 'Big Mac' charged right through it* without even slowing down. It wheeled and re-aimed itself at her, flying through the air.
Cheerilee was too shocked to move.

It crashed into an orange shield and fell apart. Cheerilee looked at Diamond Tiara. Her face looked vaguely cruel, like the old her. She swiftly dropped the use of Orangebloom's power.
"That felt too familiar. Are you all right, Miss Cheerilee?"
"I am dear and thank you, but, where's Orange -- I mean Applebloom?"
Both the ponies saw an orange ball of light flying away from them, bringing a crimson spark contained within a orange cage behind it. A call trailed back from it, "Come get me if ya can!"

Hope and Love can't be stolen by Avarice. And Hope can actually SATE the hunger of the orange light's holder for as long as the effect lasts. This is due to Hope not being a selfish emotion (as defined in the DC verse), so the orange light CAN'T effect it. dc.wikia.com/wiki/Orange_Lante…
- Blue Energy: Avarice can erode will, but it cannot consume hope. Therefore Orange Lantern Power Rings cannot absorb the energy from a Blue Lantern Ring .
- Violet Energy: Orange Lantern Power Rings are ineffective against the energy of a Star Sapphire Ring as Fatality demonstrated when she used her ring against Orange Energy Constructs.
So in other words, SS Cheerilee and other star sapphires *until the blue lanterns appear on the scene* is the BEST lanterns for defending against AO Applebloom.
So in OTHER WORDS: if it was ANY OTHER LANTERN COLOR you'd be RIGHT, but since Cheerilee is a star sapphire, the light of LOVE is an EXCEPTION to Greed's power!!! So if it was AJ, RD, or Twilight, for example the Orange construct of Big Mac would have EATEN their wall, but it CAN'T eat Cheerilee's barrier of love!

Cheerilee hurled up a crystal shield, flying back out of range with a whinny as 'Big Mac' slammed into it. It snorted and flew around for another pass, re-aiming itself at her.
"Applebloom!" She snapped, putting a very definite the-teacher-is-NOT-amused tone into her voice, "You will sit down and behave yourself, young filly!" Cheerilee reached out for her bonds formed of violet crystal.
Orangebloom whinnied in shock and smashed them with an energy blast. Then she grinned wickedly as 'her' Big Mac transformed -- first into both Big Mac and Miss Cheerilee, looking ready for a wedding... And then Cheerilee became Berry Punch, jeering at her sister as the two 'lovers' surged at her. She jeered at her former teacher.
"Looks like mah big brother found a better marefriend!"
Cheerilee froze in shock, her shield going down. No, no, this can't be Applebloom, not even Diamond Tiara at her worst was this cruel...

The constructs crashed into an orange shield and fell apart. Cheerilee looked at Diamond Tiara. Her face looked vaguely cruel, like the old her. She swiftly dropped the use of Orangebloom's power.

Zecora couldn't make sense of what was going on.
She was standing in a glowing, orange cage...no wait, she wasn't standing. She was...floating.
That couldn't be right. Zebras couldn't fly. Zecora struggled to focus, but her head felt as if it were dunked underwater. Gradually, she became aware that her arm was moving of it's own accord. It reached into her cloak and pulled out a bag of powder, and then it threw some onto the bars of the cage. The bars dissolved away and then Zecora felt her body jerk forward and she found herself flying out the gap. Okay, no, this wasn't right.
Then she heard very distant sounding noise and her head abruptly turned independent of Zecora's will. Now she found herself looking at...was that Applebloom? But it couldn't be. This Applebloom was glowing orange, floating midair, and had this... hungry look that Zecora had never before on the filly's face. Applebloom was saying something, but Zecora couldn't make it out, even though she wasn't that far away from the filly.
Then she heard a voice speak. "Applebloom! Why do you attack? Don't you know that I just want you back?"
Applebloom said something in response, but Zecora was more focused on the voice. It sounded so familiar. Then she came to a realization. A very horrifying realization.
She realized it was her own voice.
Then she heard a different voice from..somewhere say
A red cloud suddenly obstructed Zecora's view. As she watched, it assembled into a snarling pegasus mare brandishing a variety of dangerous weapons.
That settled it then. She wasn't having a bad dream. She was having a nightmare.
Wake up, Zecora, she thought, as her body ignored her commands and charged at the monstrosity before her. Wake up!
WAKE UP!

W-what?! Zecora didn't believe what this was hearing, this nightmare was only getting worse and worse!
You died at the edge of the Everfree Forest. And your corpse was made into a black lantern. You are dead.
No! If she was dead, why hadn't she joined her ancestors?! Or why hadn't her soul be sent on the cycle of reincarnation as she had been taught all her life? She couldn't be dead!! This was all a nightmare!
Accept your death or not, it remains reality. This is no dream zebra. Your life is over, and is not coming back.
Black Hurricane meanwhile, was dimly beginning to realize that overriding Black Zecora's actions may have been a mistake.

Poor Zecora! That's right; if I remember correctly, Black Lanterns created from the living or only recently slain have the real minds of the person they're imitating locked away inisde and watching everything that's happening.
I also like the idea that seeing what's become of Applebloom was enough to start 'waking her up'.

And now I see Applejack and maybe even Big Mac showing up, trying to stop Wildfire from roasting Applebloom. The rest of the Red Lanterns show, and... "So! You're trying to rustle Scootaloo away? Well it ain't gonna happen!" And AJ and Dash start to battle it out...

OT but I also understand that DC got rid of the Blue Lanterns recently. Why? According to Didio, it's because 'bleak and depressing stories work better in comics'. A comment which (if true) certainly helps to explain both what I've seen DC doing, and why I no longer read their work.

I knew the purging of lantern corps would come sooner or later. I'm disappointed, but not surprised.
But personally, I know I've written a lot of black and ugly stuff, but the POINT of what I write is that 'sunshine and rainbows' can STILL come about in such a black world. And is meant to DEFY the basic rule of such stories, that trying to do anything is pointless.
They learned from 90s anti-heroes that the audience wanted heroes who weren't total and complete jackasses. I think they also need to learn that the audience doesn't want stories that tell them "don't try, you'll just fail".

Same here. I do wish they could have put it off for a few more years.
They learned from 90s anti-heroes that the audience wanted heroes who weren't total and complete jackasses. I think they also need to learn that the audience doesn't want stories that tell them "don't try, you'll just fail".
Sometimes it seems more like that's the lesson they didn't learn, either Marvel or DC. Heck, right now Spider-Man's basically a shell occupied by the mind of Doctor Octopus (who is regarded as a hero, but acting like a murderous jerk); and you read about the Blue Lanterns.
Much the same thing seems to be going on with American literary SF, and from what I've been told by folks who keep a close eye on it, it's hemorrhaging readers at a nasty pace. That's part of the reason why I and so many guys I know turned to MLP:FiM when it showed up; it has a tone of whimsy, beauty, and most important of all HOPE in it. That's all too rare in modern entertainment.
