It hasn't even been a month since I've moved barns, and I'm already trying a new horse.
Some may call me crazy, but slapping my grabby hands when it comes to Australian Warmbloods is quite hard...
I made an appointment with the Stallions' Owners a few weeks ago, and today - They were going to come to Piantieri Stables for me to try him out.
I felt bad for making them come here, but I was simply exhausted from shows and studying that I didn't feel much like travelling.
What kind of Aussie Stallion was visiting me today ? Oh boy ! Listen up right here, a 10 year old, 16.2 hh Bay Stallion named Amourette.
As far as his ad went, he sounded like a wonderful partner personality wise, and his conformation was to die for.
According to his sellers, he had almost the ideal conformation that is wanted, being graded as a 17 points Premium Stud.
It had rained the previous night and deep fog was travelling through the woods, as the last dew was dripping off of trees and buildings.
It was dead quiet, the only thing you'd hear once in a while was a horse whinnying.
Until a big truck rolled onto the facility.
"That should be him !" I thought to myself as I slid on my boots, grabbed my helmet in panic and ran outside like someone who just missed their bus, by a second.
Arriving at the gait, I greeted his Owner and talked about him a bit, as we opened the trailer and unloaded the Stallion.
As graceful as he looked, his backing up out of the trailer wasn't too graceful..He slipped, turned and ran out the trailer, stopped right as he was out of it though.
I gave a giggle, as Moe played it off like nothing happened. "Nobody saw that".
I continued talking with his owners, about him and his past. He does seem to have a show record, and not a bad one if I may say so.
When looking for a horse, I don't really look out for show record, I'd get them into a show no matter what someday, but if they have one, that's extremely nice.
He seems to think ahead quite often, and likes to play boss, according to what I heard - This should be handled with a bit of firmness.
I brushed over his shiny summer coat, he seems to shed quite fast ! He's already done, and it's only mid May.
Moe stood patiently, enjoying the breeze of wind coming through, almost dozing off.
I slowly and gently slid on his saddle & saddlepad to not startle him.
I felt quite bad about waking him, but I didn't have the whole day for this, but so far, he seemed very sweet.
I lastly slid on his bridle, and we were ready to go !
"Just follow me ! The outdoor arena isn't far" I said, with a smile on my face, this was going to be SO exciting !
Finally arriving at the Arena, which was surrounded by birch trees and large meadows, I adjusted girth and stirrups before climbing up the mounting block and hopping on !
As I sat down, I already had this comfortable feeling in my seatbones, felt like I was relaxing on a sofa, this guy would be such a dream for weekend hacks..
I let my reins loose as we started walking along the railing of the arena, he was very brisk and cruious, bobbing his head with every step.
I was surprised at how relaxed he was, most of my horses were still youngsters, except Khan, and even he wasn't this easy going.
It seems he was very sensitive to leg aids, as I seemed to have accidently put too much pressure on one of my legs and he did a full turn to switch leads.
"Okay then Mister ! Lead change for you then" I giggle as he's flicking his ears around, birds, other horses..The wind, I was unsure how his place was noisewise.
I nudged him on to a trot.
Long, extended movements, stretching himself forward, it felt like he had extended his length by 2 meters.
But not in a bad way, It's hard to explain, though it was comfortable as heck ! Though I was still posting the trot, so we'd see later when I'm actually sitting !
Curls and leadchanges went just great, he was so sensitive and nice to ride that my signals were as minimal as ever.
Trotting more and more rounds, I decided to pick up my reins and transition into a canter.
It seems my outside aid wasn't too clear, probably my weight shifting too..But he jumped forward into a Counter canter, which he quickly corrected through a flying change, without me doing anything.
"See ? We told you he thinks ahead !" the Owners say as they bend over the fencing.
I smile, "hah ! It's not bad at all though, a bit bossy indeed, but a horse that thinks ahead is exactly what Im looking for !"
Oh right, did I talk about his canter ?
It was quite tricky to get him in a "even" rythm and he reacted to every slight movement.
Though when extending, he surely made my heart jump.
The extending went into a very long, powerful canter.
I could've cried, it felt so unbelievable !
This horse was extraordinary, he'd do SO well in Dressage.
I could really seem him climb up just as well as Khan, maybe even better !
As I don't think Mules are allowed in many high classes...I was lucky the last times.
I transitioned back into a trot, leaning forward and patting his neck
"You, Amourette - are one BIG star."
This was it.
2 hours have passed and this horse had given me the time of my life, just as much as Khan.
And THAT level, is very hard to reach.
But the real question is....Will this stay a Amourette ?
Or is thisย Amour รฉternel...

About this horse:ย ย
Amourette is a willing stallion who has gone through the hoops of showing. how knows what he is doing even if the rider doesn't which is both a blessing and a curse. He can take advantage of his riders but it's never to put them in harms way, its mostly because they may not react in the ideal way that he wishes. He still is a very kind stallion, and can literally be walked by a toddler and wait patiently behind has they move forward slowly. He expresses wonderful gaits with his dressage background but he also has a beautiful jump that will prove useful in multiple jumping rings. He has a very comfortable walk, trot, and canter you just need to be a little firm with him to really show him who is boss.ย
