Description Jasha and Vladik Fleeing from witch called Baba Yaga...
run boys, run; if she'll get you SHE'LL EAT YOU! >8D

seriously...she eats children. :I

Anyhow...

A background/ scene practise from my story for Jasha and his brother Vladik.
Jasha is on the left and Vladik is on the right. :3

In young age Vladik and his brother Jasha got orphans (in 1920's).
They tried to survive in Petrograd's (St.Petersburg) streets by stealing. They hoped to find a new start somewhere else, so they decided to leave their home country.
They sneaked into a train and tried to get as far as they could...but they were noticed and thrown out from a moving train into snowy Russian woods.
Boys didn't know excatly where they were, or how to survive there, but they still managed to keep themselves alive by eating whatever they could find eatable.

One day they settled upon a strange hut in the woods. It had wooden legs, similiar with chickens and around it was a fench made of human bones.
Boys had heard from their mother about Baba Yaga, and knew she was wicked old witch who ate little children.
Jasha and Vladik didn't know what to do...they were really hungry and cold and the only place where's warm was inside Baba Yaga's cottage.
They were scared of the witch, so they waited if they could see her leave...and some time later she came out and vanished into the woods.

Boys sneaked to the hut. They didn't know how to get up into the warm cottage. Suddently it spinned around and came down...
the door opened and the cottage kept strange noices...Jasha and Vladik were really scared but the smell of delicious stew were too irresistible, so they entered the hut.
They ate as much as they could, as fast as they could. After eating they started to look around. There was all kinds of of magical stuff around the cottage.
Potions, skulls, books and amulets. Jasha found a book lying on the sidetable. It was very old and had a pentagram on the cover.
He opened the book, which was full of different kinds of spells. A sudden wind alarmed the boys...Baba Yaga was coming back. Jasha snatched the book and they escaped the hut.

Baba Yaga noticed immediately that someone had been inside her hut. She was really angry at the hut itself. it had let starngers in without her permission!
The book what was on the table were taken...  Angry as a bear woken from its hibernation Baba Yaga went after the little thiefs.

I'm not going to reveal more about what's going to happen. ;3

Sorry about my poopy english...It's almost 3 am here. x'D
I will probably make more drawings of these two and their story in near future. I've had this 'Vladik & Jasha-mood' up for a while now...

JHHGHYTTXZ...LOL...snow. xD
Haha, when I made this I accidently put the background layers together too soon. So it's made on one layer before I tried to add some gradient shadows in it.
Never again! x'D I need to be careful with layers....

Ok...I really need to go to bed now... -u-

Thank you for looking! <3

Tulee aikas mieleen että tää vois olla ihan hyvinkin kohtaus animaatioelokuvasta. Lumoavat maisemat, Baba Yagan siluetti näyttäytyy sopivan uhkaavana.

YAYA more of the story! <333 Now you need to finish that Jackie carrying them pic <3333 Mostly because I find it adorable, even if Jackie and Spine would punch me for saying so hahaha. Anyways, awesome job on this pic, I think that the smaller boys make the forest seem more vast and imposing. I don't really know the story of Baba Yaga, my friend did a painting of her hut one time though, and it seemed pretty damn awesome. I might have to look it up to read it. I like how you use her in your story though, and with her big ol shadow there in the back makes it kinda scary. Lovely job with the bg as well, with all the logs and trees, and making the snow look so deep and thick Jasha looks so different with blonde hair too, no dark green hair or vibrant green anywhere XD

Yes, I tought that when I uploaded this. x3 'ok now I have even better reason to finish the Jackie pic too'
....besides I don't remember when I've drawn Jackie last time?... o3o Dang...I just realized that need to make a pic just for him because I miss him! x'D
Haha, when I get more pics of my OC's done there's gonna be lots of connecting link in descriptions...and peeps are gonna get so confused. xD
I need to do chronological timeline for them... but that's faaar in the future~
Haha, yes Jasha was a blondino before he drank shapeshift potion and all those mixed ones together... then he slowly turned fully green
(first he just had huge green splotches in his body... xD)and his hair grew dark green.
Thank you Syd! Imma happeee you like it! >w<

HEY! This story was really great n_n I especially like this version. You asked for critique so I had a few questions and here they are:

· Isn't Baba Yaga from the movie Spirited Away? I forget but I DID like that movie
·What country are you from? My guess is RUSSIA and if so that is uuber cool (no pun intended...well only sorta!) Plus your English is exceptional!

Okay that's all for now. Hope to hear back soon ^_^

Thank you so much! I'm happy to hear you like it! ^^

Well, in spirited away there was a witch who was similiar with Baba Yaga.
Still Baba Yaga has been witch in Russian folklore for hundreds of years, so I quess Miyazaki
wanted to make his version from the famous witch. i love that movie too! It's one of my favourites from him. ^^
Here is more about Russian Baba Yaga: [link]

Haha, well I'm from a country next to Russia: Finland. : D
I've always been interested in Russian folklore thou, and the country itself too.
Haha, and I have to say that the Russian language is one of my favourites from all languages. xD
Others are british English (especially with Scottish or Irish accents), Japanese and French.

I absolutely adore this SO MUCH. The fact that you can get such a sense of the story simply by looking at the image, and then, it's like AWESOME THERE IS A STORY when you scroll down. There's so much tension and fear emanating from the characters, which contrasts so beautifully with the lovely, serene setting. (The snow-covered trees come across as soft and comforting.) Russian folklore always makes me giddy.

You defiantly need to do more wintery themed backgrounds.
Ooo maybe sometime we could commission you to draw Myst and Etoh in the snow. ^^

MacUaine In reply to JamJams [2011-05-30 08:21:26 +0000 UTC]

I should, because it was quite fun. I should try it traditionally too...
I stopped doing backgrounds many years ago and just two years back started to do them again ( slowly, but I started. x3).
before that I almost always made a background for my drawings, especially to big ones. o3o
Aww! That sounds so sweet. x3 <3

JamJams In reply to MacUaine [2011-05-30 08:27:21 +0000 UTC]

I dunno why you don't do more traditional stuff, your traditional coloring is always so beautiful.
I am not very good at doing like realistic type backgrounds, so I just stick to doing watercolor ones and trying different techniques to get different looks.
Yes, plus I love getting arts from you!!! <333333333

MacUaine In reply to JamJams [2011-05-30 08:58:38 +0000 UTC]

Well, I don't know either. xD I quess I wanted to learn digital art, but it kinda distracted me from traditional art.
Now I try to draw more traditonally. That's one reason I don't accept digital commissions (only simple chibies) right now.
Some things I have to do digitally if the lineart gets ruined while inking it, etc.
I enjoy traditional colouring so much thou. I've just got too careful what comes to bakcgrounded traditional art. -u-;
