Description For Inktober 2023, I'm doing a month of mythologically originating monster people that aren't just some variation of elf or dwarf.

While normally rooted in established mythology, these guys are part of my personal history -- deep "Gobbo Lore" if you would. A good while back, my chummy circle had discussed "fixing D&D", basically making our own version. This was a novel concept at the time, you see. I have since learned about Mutants & Masterminds so *fart noise* to that.

Anyhoo, of course there were to be elves and dwarves (yawn) because the bulk of all audiences are basic, and of course there would be vampires since edgelords are a thing, but the one buddy still knew to spice it up some. Hence: a race of giants. Desert dwelling, I believe they leaned pacifistic. Now I -- like a comic book artist in the nineties -- took the vague outline and filled in, arguably, too many details. "Oh, you were, like, the artist or something?" No, I just take things and run with 'em. Too far.

To make them, you know, not just big regular humans, they turned into -- as a different occupant of the circle put it -- big, blue Buddhas. They were blue, you see, in skin tone if that was not made clear. Well, often blue. I have always hated when other races are portrayed as having, well, the same races as humans. "Yep, pink and brown. They got those, too, as they paralleled man's absorption of a competing stone-age species and imported equatorial phenotype across the land." I always picked three colors for each race to serve as the representative triangle of pigmentation, and only upwards to one would be shared with humans.

Anyhoo (x2), pretty sure the name is Greek and that of a particular giant, but "titan" is kinda repurposed these days (stupid awesome anime) and "giant" is just too generic. Also, this is probably the more obvious page that demonstrates how seat-of-my-pants this process has been all month as I do NOT have time to pencil an outline before inking, resulting in some squooshing at the bottom.

Pen and ink (Higgins, waterproof drawing ink, black india).
