I really wanted to design a kind of RPG-role monk for my own campaign use, because I just find the combat style really unique haha. I had the idea for a kind of playfully dumb character. Anyway!
This character concept was produced for my master's degree [MA] in Concept Art, as part of a module where we had to adapt a real-world setting into fantasy. I chose Siem Reap in Cambodia, which has these ruins left from the Khmer empire. My character's design took inspiration from traditional Cambodian jewellery and Khmer warrior armour, but also the robes often worn by Buddhist monks who in the modern day frequent Siem Reap. I thought the shade of orange just has a lot of recognisable iconography to it.

His pet is a simple creature I designed I call a 'tree otter': it's basically a regular otter, but I reshaped its body to be a little more adept at climbing, a bit more like a marten or lemur. The paws are very lemur inspired! My idea was that its quite a cheeky little thing, and likes to steal shiny things, including keys and gold.
