Hence the "I don't even understand" part. I do like her, but more in terms of what ifs. Without her husband around to spur her towards a certain opinion, I think she would be much more supportive of Toph, albeit I still don't see her encouraging her to go off on dangerous adventures. I doubt Toph spent the rest of her life ignoring her parents, so I think she won Poppy over first. However, as you say she didn't stand up to her husband and I don't think their family situation would change until Lao accepted Toph. Then maybe Poppy could develop some of Toph's spunk.

well... actualy i just really liked the way you portraid her here.
I find poppy as a character to be too submissive -"yes dear if you say so then it is" kind of way, but i think that maybe as a young girl she probrably had more spirit like toph, and society just beat it out of her.
but grandma poppy... thats just too cute!

That would make a lot of sense. Obviously Lao is the head of the household and she tends to go along with what he says, but I wonder what they used to be like. I also wonder what they're like after Toph comes back from the war and if they ever came to understand her. There's so much to explore and we could do whatever we want with it.

haha yeah i know thats why i like it when there are unanserd questions like that... that be know will never be awnsered because then we can make our own verison.
its like all the fus about lins dad and not being told who he is (which i'm kinda sick of seeing on tumblr) who cares! if they never tell us then no one is ever dissapointed. tokka fans can belive its sokka, others the duke, etc.
i think on a creative side thats the best way they could have done it really.
and because they did its opened up a huge void that can now be stuffed with fanart and fanfics lol.

Yeah. After the series ended and we starting hearing about Korra my number one scenario was where they just wouldn't tell us who got together. I've still got an inkling of hope for actual endgame Tokka, because there has been so little emphasis on Suki -- much less Sukka -- since. Simultaneously we've got new fodder for Tokka, if not any confirmation that Toph's feelings remained past the series... I'm not sure if they're building up for a big reveal or if they're actually being generously vague such that Kataang is the only undeniably canon ship. xD

If they're not going to tell us, however, I kind of wish they would tell us that they're not going to tell us. Then people really could happily have their headcanons, instead of rubbing evidence (or lack thereof) in each other's faces.

Anywho, back to Poppy. As much as I'd like to know how Toph's relationship with her parents was after the war, just to give her some closure on something, it is a story-producing mystery that is completely devoid of shipping wars. ^_^

this is all verry true.

yeah, I don't know if toph would have been able to reconcile things with her perants... I like to think she would have been on good terms with them after the war but chosen to keep her independance and presue her role in republic city.
while still communicating with her perants.

I find it takes alot to get to the point where you can actualy spend years without talking to you're perents, especialy if there is genuine love there. i think there is.

and now i realy need to do some fanart of their later relationship.

I've got a headcanon, before Korra news came out, that she went back to her parents and lived within their expectations... sort of. But we all know this wouldn't work out beautifully unless she laid down her own rules. It'd make sense that she'd live independently of them for a while before she reconciled with them. And she does in canon. Since I don't think they're totally delusional, they must have gotten used to it eventually

I think I might make another piece of her relationship with her parents later in Tokka Week.
