Last Friday, I talked about the latest song by an underground singer I’ve been following in the past two years named Smrtdeath! It’s called Adding Up, it comes from his newest album called it’s fine (releasing next Friday), and it was made in collaboration with Mark Hoppus, the bassist/vocalist of Blink-182! Yes, THAT Mark Hoppus! And it’s a pretty solid song too, feeling like something that could’ve come from Blink-182’s experimental self-titled album (or maybe even Neighborhoods) with Smrtdeath’s signature 808s-&-guitar mixing and Mark Hoppus as-welcome-as-ever vocal delivery, which, in the second verse, also gets a bit real with the lyric ‘eaten alive like a victim of cancer’ (Mark was diagnosed with stage 4 diffuse large B-cell lymphoma last year, which hit me really hard as a fan since my early pre-teen years)! Absolutely love this song, and I’m so happy for Smrtdeath (who I based two drawings off of before) now getting to work with a rock icon like Mark, go listen to it! You’ll thank me!

The feeling of uneasyness in the lyrics mixed with the high-energy pop-punk vibe (a mix that the pop-punk genre is very well-known for) is what I went with basing this drawing off of, using the Chalk Pastel tool in Sketchbook with bright colors (which has been used in mid-to-late 2000s edge kind of art, kind of like what you might find on a Hot Topic t-shirt) in what is visualizing Sonic and Gumball going through rough patches (which are entirely separate from each other, FYI; after this takes place is when they get together and talk about what each of them are going through right now). Kind of ironic that this is the literal next drawing I make and release after a drawing that saw them happy, eh? And while we’re on the topic of Sonic and Gumball, get ready to see them throughout next month, with drawings like Knuckles alongside Radicles from OK K.O.! Let’s Be Heroes, Mario and Sonic 4, a new Penball drawing, and maybe even a SpongeBob crossover with both of them (with a Sandy Cheeks and Tails drawing that’s been on my mind since 2018, and one that I decided to add more character too as time went on). The fact that this is based on a song by Smrtdeath plus a Blink-182 member makes this my first drawing in both of those categories after I came out as transgender last year.
