Description So here's on the of the pieces I've been playing with, trying to find that 'just right' blend of traditional and digital.
Honestly it's all trial and error so far, hoping to learn better ways to do this.
The Harpy's name is Selene, she came to me in a dream.

What is your technique for digital blending with traditional? I ask because I have difficulties in basic work in digital, but details and color are easier that way for me and I want to try blending the two as well.

Honestly I just started exploring this type of medium as well.
So far I found there is a multitude and really no "concrete" way of doing it, since every artist has such a varied style/preference.

Personally; I like to sketch as much (or little) as possible, depends on pic.
Then (again depends on picture) I play with layer settings; overlay and multiply usually.
It's hard to say what works best since each picture is subjective.

I'm trying to do a more "detailed" traditional pic and then overlay color minimally, again just experimenting :3

I'm liking this combo so far, it's interesting getting used to a new way of doing things, but not bad.

Looking very nice for a new direction in style! It already looks so different from your other art, so distinct. I don't know why but I really like the bits of hard edged color thrown in, it really balances out the feathers. :3 I can't wait to see what those other ones look like that I saw in sketch form. XD

The sweep of the wings and the detailing of the feathers in the foreground works well for this piece, but the digital shading throws it off a bit. Maybe if it was refined a little further, it would help to make the colouring on the back of the wings feel more realistic.

The detailing/colouring to the talons is great, they mesh well. The other thing that throws me off about this picture is the harpy's hair. As she's coming in to land, shouldn't the flow of the hair be moving in the same direction/motion as the wings because they are sending up puffs of air?

There is actually little to no shading on this piece, it is purely pencil-work with color overlay. Only like, 4 maybe 5 colors?
Like I said this my first time even trying this on a program that I've used for two weeks.
Not that I'm looking to excuse myself, I just honestly don't know -what- I'm working with (there's so many buttons here oh jesus).
She's balancing on the branch, hence the hair is downward.

I'm glad of the input though, I hope my blending/mixing skills will improve, I'd like to get as good as Bara when it comes to media mixing.

Even though this is trial and error in finding what works best for your style, this didn't turn out bad at all.  You got the feathers on par, which isn't an easy thing to do, and I rather like the fading other wing in the BG showing it further away from her body.

A great start, I'd say.

My first time trying that, using 'masks', I think I should have faded it more but eh~
*nods* there's really no rules for this, and I see so many different ways of coloring that it's really down to individual taste.

Woo, well hopefully I'll only improve :3

I'm trying to go for a 'minimalistic' look.
Kind of like Bara does, her artwork is mostly traditional pencil sketch with only a few digital colors mixed in.
It is a very soft and lovely effect, I wish she made a tutorial Q_Q

Feathers are tough.  As is digitally coloring pencil drawings... I am impressed: you pulled off both.

Many kind thanks!
Yeah the pencil-to-digital-color conversion is a bit of a...mmmh..."minefield" of learning.
Either it looks good, or it looks like something the Winchester brothers have to kill.
