Description

RE-UPLOAD, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN! Fullview plz!

ENG: Hi everyone! I'm back with other Phantom stuffs °w° as you see, this time I'm working on a short novel inspired by Leroux's original book. It's a project I've got in mind for a long time and finally I decided to start.
In less than a week I will start studying animation and concept art at school and this is one of the drawings that I'm willing to put in my sort-of-portfolio.
"Erik! - Birth of a Phantom" will be a short history of three episodes featuring the characters of LFTLO as children (yes, I know I'm not the first person who thought of this) along with characters created or reinvented for the occasion like the persian/daroga's mother and Gustave Daae, the most imitated dead man of the world X3!
Before anyone says, I KNOW that Erik is much older than Christine and Raoul in the book, but my novel is INSPIRED and not BASED on it.
-------
Hoping that my poor English has not caused you any permanent damage, I've to announce the sad news: the story will be in ITALIAN.
But when the first episode is at least finish, I will welcome any willing translator

ITA: Salve a tutti!

Great work! I'm really excited about this project.
Would you be willing to post the script in Italian for a translator to use?

MalakiaLaGatta In reply to PrinceRose [2011-10-18 09:08:51 +0000 UTC]

Maybe ^w^ I'm not sure about it because first I want to send my novel to many italian publishers hoping for an answer. (yesyes Malakia believe it =_=" <--- upset by italian publishing)
Anyway, when I finish the first volume I may ask some english-speaking deviants if they want to help me do a translation because, as you see, my english isn't that good XD.
And obviously I will help any translator as much as I can^^

I had guessed it too eheh.
But being born in a not anglophone country is a real drama for me ç_ç I only say that to see a musical in London I need to buy the CD and familiarized with the lyrics before going to theater.... and that's quite sad T_T.
Anyway, thanks for your support, I'm glad you like my art

millenium-night In reply to MalakiaLaGatta [2011-10-14 19:43:06 +0000 UTC]

I don't live in an anglophone country either. The worst thing is that the show never comes here (though I heard it used to a looong time ago... besides, no translation can beat the original lyrics IMO). There are people living in London who could watch a different musical/play every week if they wanted I wish I was one of them.
Again, you are most welcome

Your english is so fluent that I was convinced it was your native language XD sorry!
Anyway, even in Italy there has never been a tour of Phantom (but some years ago I saw Cats -with the london cast- in Florence) and you're absolutely right, english lyrics are awesome.
My first contact with PotO has been the 2004 movie and obiously it was dubbed in italian... not a bad adaptation, but some songs had completely lost the original sense. When I put my paws on the DVD and select "original language" my life has changed! XD

millenium-night In reply to MalakiaLaGatta [2011-10-17 16:12:28 +0000 UTC]

Oh no problem, I'm glad to hear that XD
Your English is fluent too, though. If you hadn't told me I wouldn't have detected that it's not your native language.
Wow, the origial cast in Italy! The London cast of any musical never came to Germany as far as I remember.
My first contact with PotO actually was Leroux's novel. After reading it, I was loking for any kind of movie adaption and stumbled upon the 2004 movie. Besides tha fact that I'm not so fond of the singer chosen for the German Phantom dubbing, I found it quite annoying that the movements of the actor's mouths didn't fit the voices at all. For this reason I prefer watching it in English. Still, nothing can beat the live musical and its amazing tenor voices... I mean, have you heard JOJ sing? *gets hit by angry Gerry fans*
Btw, I listened to the Italian version once (as well as to the Dutch, Spanish and French one). I love it when he sings "canta mi angelo" in the end (sry for probably wrong spelling) - the phrase sounds much better than in the German version.

MalakiaLaGatta In reply to millenium-night [2011-10-18 09:47:07 +0000 UTC]

Ahahah that's curious XD!
Yes I've been very lucky to see them in Florence it was the first musical I see on stage and still one of my favourites along with Les Miserables and Phantom, of course.
I never heard the dutch dubbing of 2004 movie (I will°^°) anyway yes, I saw JOJ on stage but he didn't impress me. Sofia Escobar, who plays Christine, always overshadows him in the duets and his interpretation of Erik is a bit too tragic for my taste. Obviously, Erik IS a tragic character, but I prefer when actors shows his weakness through anger and sighs instead of crying and begging... that's why my favourite Phantom is Ramin Karimloo
But I also apreciate how Gerard Butler plays him in the movie, his voice is not that good but I like his acting... even if I can't stand what makeup artists have done to his face lol: he has got to much hair and so little deformity =_=

millenium-night In reply to MalakiaLaGatta [2011-10-18 15:44:29 +0000 UTC]

My first musical was Lion King, and the two times I went to see Phantom (both with JOJ & SE) were my only others, to be honest
I agree on Sofia Escobar having a very strong stage presence. Her singing and acting are very emotional - one gets the impression she really feels it, and so does the audience. As regards JOJ, his portrayal was perfect for me. It's not that he wasn't angry at all, just less than other Phantoms, I'd say. Ah well, I guess I'm a fan of all stories sad and tragic XD Besides, him being the only Erik I've ever met in person, it is hard to be neutral.
Ramin Karimloo has a very strong voice. From time to time it gets difficult for me to decide which is better - his or JOJ's singing. Both have their advantages, if you ask me. Still, there was one incredibly creepy close-up on RK's face in the end of the 25th anniversary version shown in the cinemas: He came across as delightfully dangerous when saying "You... try... my... patience!", just as the character has to be, after all.
Finally, Gerard Butler is always nice to look at as the Phantom ^__^ ...although an interpretaion of Erik's character who is true to the original should be much more skeletal and possibly taller (in addition to the make-up you already mentioned). It doesn't stop me from re-watching the movie, though XD
