Well, they died, and their corpses were injected with determination, which was seen as simply a source of incredible energy that remained even in human corpses. The determination infused monster corpses were then cut up into reasomably sized bits and put in soil to attempt to fertilize various crops. However, the chunks of monster flesh soon began to melt in the soul, and they bonded together, in most instances through the plants and roots they were surrounded with.
