Once again, HOW DID I MISS THIS? That's the cons to having a subscription, I can see what I want as fast.
Adult Swim NEEEDS this show. How they went so long without showing it is beyond me. Guess I need to rant on their forums.

They can't show it because the Anime Network swiped the North American rights to it before AS could nab it. I read a while back one of the bullshit bumper cards where the guys who write that crap were talking shit about Excel, saying it was annoying and crappy compared to FLCL (the show they did manage to buy). So I don't think they'll ever be showing it unfortunately.

Yes, well at least the first episode. I knew I'd love it because in the very very first scene this tiny little girl beats up a big demon guy and puts him in the f*ckin SHARPSHOOTER!! (or Scorpion Deathlock, depending on your choice of titles). Poor Nobushin (sp?), why did he have to go? Or did he? I can't remember everything perfectly.
I also saw the too-hot-for-TV final ep. of Excel, which was gloriously over the top. Lots of borderline child porn between those two shows.

I've come to believe that, unless you know exactly when, how and what you're going to draw, you shouldn't labor on a piece too long or the "essence" will be lost. It's the fun, the moment, the inspiration and that initial vision that makes amazing work, and I see that in this piece. I bet if you loosened up more often, you'd be even better and that pretty much applies to all artists. Like me, for instance, I'm still very confined and ridged but I'm working to let lose and "control the chaos", I think then I'll find my true voice and skill.

I think I know what you mean. Frankly I've never been very loose with my drawings, I've never been a very good sketch artist. Only in recent years have I even been able to fake a decent sketch. I used to draw straight into solid linework without even placing motion lines or body getures. I learned all that stuff in college.

I miss doing speed paintings, gestures and drawing figures, it kept my mind more active and progressive. When I was in college, I didn't realize just how good I had it, drawing figures 3-5 hours a day was just want I needed. I too have become very stiff in my drawing but I hope too change that. Now I find myself wanting to draw life more than ever, especially if I'm ever going to make a good run at fine art, it's a good drive to have. God knows, drawing an amazing figure drawing is far as can be from doing vector portraits from photos but I intend to do both...not so generally but you get the idea. Damn, I'm so long winded..heh.

Jeez, I'm sorry. I didn't wanna make you sick.
Thanks for the comps. I just read that Excel, Hyatt, and Il Pallazo are all named after hotels from the Japanese city the series takes place in. I've seen Hyatts around here before. Neat.

Character perspective is something else my work has been lacking, so I'm working on that. I don't want my stuff to look so flat anymore. I do feel this is one of my more animated (and anime) looking pieces, and I'm happy with it. The coloring might be a little dark though.

Yeah perspective on the body is pretty difficult to learn, but very very useful. I kind of wish there had been a class just on that is school. I like the coloring because it doesn't have the gloss and slickness typical of most computer coloring.

Eric commented that the coloring looks kinda like it does in an old cheap 4-color comic book, which is probably what I like about it. I didn't want it to be overly glossy, but have the same kind of roughness that the actual drawing has.

I've been reading the manga. It's a lot less insane than they anime, more like a British sitcom with occasional violence occuring.

Yeah, I got the first three volumes, which I'd lend you if you weren't thousand of miles away. Unfortunately the book stores go from volume 3 to like 11 or 13, so I can't continue the story until I find the missing books.
