Description ... The stars don't seem so out of reach.

LOOKIE I MADE A VECTOR. Trying to get better at illustrator and this is the first real full picture I did with it (aside from occasional attempts that I never saw through to completion).

Tiger in the picture is Mochi, the hipster tiger, who I realise I haven't uploaded any art of xD NekoPhoenix has a few pics of him if you want go look though my faves or her fab art gallery!

<3

I FEEL POSITIVE. Hence the picture C: Flowers and stars are ace.

Picture done in Illustrator, colour tweaking and texture added in Photoshop.

Woah, jesus, vector - you have my admiration! That's one bitch of a program t'be working with.

And youuu <3 You wee advertising legend, that's so sweet of you to put my name in there

This is fantastic!! I absolutely love the style of it, the colours - it'd make a wonderful poster :3
There's just something about the simple shapes of the stars and the added texture you've put on top that make this so soothing just to look at <3

I don't understand vector art, Is it to do with loads of layers and gradients?? I jus duno guirmfoij.
<3

malta In reply to Schakalo [2012-04-08 15:34:09 +0000 UTC]

Aw you think? Thanks!
It's more about thinking of every part of the image as a separate 'object' that can be manipulated and tweaked. And they're all sort of layered on top of each other yeah. You can make everything on one layer, but I found it easier to do it like on Photoshop and make separate layers for background, shading, etc and then lock the layers.

Schakalo In reply to malta [2012-04-08 18:12:58 +0000 UTC]

Yup! No problem! Ahhh righto, sounds really technical. Does it produce drawings with distinctive assets that only a vector piece would show??
Thankies for telling me :3 <3

malta In reply to Schakalo [2012-04-08 19:07:37 +0000 UTC]

Yeah there's a difference between a vector and a rasterised image, I think mostly to do with the fact that a vector can be scaled up or down to any desired size without losing definition and sharpness. Whereas a rasterised image is pixel based, so can be shrunk down without losing sharpness but can't be scaled up, because it goes kinda blurry. I don't know WHY this is, I just think that's the main difference. You always notice how vector images have very smooth very well defined lines, and when there's colour blending it's gradient style.

Woah, awesome. Cheers for educating me :'D
I think I touched on stuff like this a little when I was doing work experience, at least I THINK I did! Bwah, I duno. There's probably somewhere this is going to crop up and be useful to me in the future, I sure hope so.
I can't believe I'm not taking art for an A-level :I

Awesome, I'm just looking for something small like retail to just let me get into uni.
Although concept art is pretty awesome I have no idea how it works careers wise!

Exactly what I was thinking ;D
ohyhbby. Same, my friends still don't understand the satisfactory crunch of dry ramen.
mmmmm

malta In reply to Schakalo [2012-04-17 20:12:40 +0000 UTC]

Retail can be good fun! Depends on the place you're in ofc. I worked in GAME during my last two years of secondary school, really enjoyed it, and some of the people I met during that time I'm still very good friends with, almost 10 years down the line! Hope you find something you enjoy You can always volunteer to do posters and related art stuff to add some bulk to your portfolio, there's so many people out there in need of art.
I'm not sure how it works career-wise either tbh.. If I do get this job it will be my first proper step into the art industry, aside from the freelance bits I've done so far. Interview tomorrow! *stressed*

Mmmm.. dry ramen.. I'm hungry now. I've become really addicted to some long thin cracker things that have lots of roasted seeds on them. Supa tastee!

I've been into town and handed my CV in everywhere, I suppose I can't really expect anywhere until the summer! I really wanted to work at game but they're shutting down for good
I did some website design stuff on my work experience, I did a web banner as well, I would love to do quick stuff like that for free, but I don't know where to offer it!! I Don't even have a portfolio, I hardly ever finish anything traditional! omgomg excited!! Never been to a job interview :I Lemme know how it goes omg! Good luck man <3

I just had tea omg can't eat another bite. I don't understand people who preffer pot noodle over the cheap packs of ramen... I never will~ What are they called?? They sound weird!
I've become obsessed with these long soft biscuits you get from M&S omgomg.

Oo gz on getting your CV handed out! Game aren't really shutting down per say, they've been bought by OpCapita (or whatever it's called) which is a company that buys out businesses that are struggling financially. So for now game have closed all the stores that weren't doing so well financially (like my local one T___T) and have kept the ones that were doing ok. They'll most likely rebrand and re-launch themselves under a slightly new name and corporate identity.
Gawd McDonalds.. >_< hope not!

Well I think on the DA jobs forums you can post offering your services, you can also google it I guess. Not sure what town you're in, but you can always post up flyers in like.. large Sainsbury's advertising your art, and wherever there's noticeboards for jobs and whatnot. I found all of my stuff online tbh ^^

Thank yooouuu!! I'm super nervous D: I know once I get in there I'll calm down but it's the bit before where I spazz out. It's at half past two and I SHALL LET YOU KNOW HOW IT WENT!! <3

Ew pot noodle .__. I had that stuff twice and it was just.. gross.
I think they're Riveta Thins or something? What are those M&S biscuits O: they sound nom.

The wheels on the bus go OM NOM NOM.

I Know man~ I've handed it out everywhere but I still haven't had any freakin EMAILS. Seriously omg cries. At least theres amazon where I can buy my games still!! I see you have a Khajiit on Skyrim ;O; SAME! I love that game so much its crazy.

DA has Job forums!! This is news to me, I'll check those out! Awesome! I suppose I can put some up in tesco, or dot them around town, other then that my town isn't very busy.

Have you done the interview now?? HOW DID IT GO! <333!

Ikr, no one understands my feeling for pot noodle... I don't know what it is but its JUST NOT THE SAME. I've heard of them!! I'll have to ask my friend, she knows, I just know that heavenly biscuistdmfinom. LOL
Best song 5ever. <3

malta In reply to Kata [2012-04-08 15:31:09 +0000 UTC]

Thank you! Texture is a mix of the same paper texture applied twice, once on multiply with some tweaked coloured settings, once on overlay, but I applied those on PS rather than illustrator, mostly because it's faster for me

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Kata In reply to malta [2012-04-08 16:25:13 +0000 UTC]

Yeah PS is a lot easier to use textures with, though I hear there's a way in Illustrator to make texture swatches, which would really help. Haven't played with that yet though
