hey, i've found one of these to buy and i'm thinking of giving it a try.
do you reckon its a bit too ambitious for a first attempt at this sort of thing?

cool, just make sure its an original vinyl kit made by Horizon models. dont buy the cheap recasts, as they are horrible quality and very undersized.
not to hard to do for a first timer.

yeah, but it has to be from horizon models, if its from overseas, then its a recast.....and it will be smaller.

yeh it doesn't say horizon anywhere on the page.
and its from thailand, so i guess it must be a recast.
thanks for your help!

it is a vinyl kit and was released many years ago by a company called Horizon. you can find them on ebay from time to time....just watch out for recasts...as they are smaller and missing detail.

man, the weathering/lowlights in the joints is just beautiful. I wish I could get that level of detail on my (admittedly limited) stuff.

It looks like you've got dust, oil stain, and shadow in each of the creases.
Is that just darkened base color with a little additional brown mixed in?

I take it you mix your own colors? or are you using a specific line?

HI,
Thanks for the comments on my work.
For the main colors, I use a brand called Life tone freestyle paints.
The gold is citadel gold.
The staining is applied with a wash of black/brown mixed.

hope this helps!

Joe
