Description A character from my side campaign. Don’t draw art for them because they seem to die pretty quick. Shes lasted pretty long though. She was a replacement for a cleric who died early on, I grabbed her from the rules cause it was easier then rolling a new one up. only I made her into a Paladin, fill the healer role, and she done pretty well for herself. For a front line charge everything kind of maniac she’s survived and kicked ass.  Most notably hacking a red dragon to pieces and out fighting a level 7 fighter while at level 5. The part would’ve been wiped many times over if it weren’t for her insane murder skills.

Os my side campaign is a series of the old basic D&D set modules. I never got to play them so Im running them now. I Use a Frankenstein of rules and mechanics from various versions of the Basic game, some old some new, and it works pretty well. If I weren’t so scatter brained or opposed to codifying I’d write them down.

There are those that think fighters in Basic D&D are weak and can’t match wizards at high levels (the modern game has made them irrelevant with magic bloat). I think people just don’t know how to use the system.
She’s level six and armed with a +1 magic sword. So thats D8+1 dmg ~avg 5 dmg a hit. using the weapon mastery skills found in the rule book thats currently bumped up to D12+1 ~7 dmg a hit. (That the second level, the next one up is 2d8 then 2d8+4 and finally 2d6+8) so thats pretty good for a sword. Add onto that the strength bonus and you get another +1. With magic item it can go higher. Said 7th level fighter she killed had a Belt of Giant strength (it was in the module) and they give double damage. So shes currently doing 2(D12+2) damage every hit with a +8 to hit. So thats ~15 hp Dmg every hit and has a +9 to hit. Thats around a 60 to 70 % chance to do 15 damage every rd. For modern players that might not seem like much but thats gonna one most 3HD monsters. One shooting bugbears and ogres. With a few more magic items and leveling her weapon mastery that could easily jump to +20 dmg a rd. Thats giant slaying territory. So yeah, fighters can still kick ass if you equip them right and use the weapon mastery rules.
