Storyline wise I prefer Kaidan because in all honesty it seemed to make more sense if he lived...because. Gameplay wise I just thought he was more useful in combat. Plus Ash is annoying.

I loved Ashley. She was a character I could relate to. But I always leave her behind on Virmire.
The whole point of the mission was to destroy Saren's base-- that made the bomb the priority. And since Kaidan is a tech monkey and Ashley is a soldier, he stays with the bomb while she goes with the salarians. It just never made sense to leave her with it since Kirrahe said its reliability depends on who is arming it.
So when it comes down to choosing, I always choose the bomb. I will admit that I probably put too much thought into a video game choice though

i chose Ash first because i thought the game will let me save both of them...well that wasnt how it happened

It would be amazing to see if Ashley is actually alive in ME3. I mean if you saved Kaiden, and Ashley just appears in ME3 out of nowhere to say she escaped or something no matter what time was left. I don't know if bioware would get rid of her that quickly. I don't know; just a thought.

yeah, especially considering how Shepard was brought back to life after ME2's opening sequence. then again, s/he was a very important asset, whereas Ashley is just kinda... yeah. I do miss her though.

Even when I was Jessica Shepard, I let Kaidan die. I couldn't have cared less about him.

I did at first. But then I wound up romancing her as Malcom Shepard my first playthrough. I thought about Liara second playthrough, but she was still just too creepy, so I went with Ash again. Third playthrough I went with Liara for the heck of it as Jessica Shepard, and I kinda...sorta...killed Kaidan so that I wouldn't have to deal with his drama. He really had it bad for me.

I've found that though I don't really have a fangasm over either Ashley or Kaidan, I feel signifigantly worse if I leave Kaidan to die than Ashley.

I tried it once, and even played it into ME2, but I stopped somewhere in the beginning and went back and redid Virmire and everything because I felt quite guilty.

I suppose the reason why I always choose Kaidan is because I always play as FemShep. Out of all my play throughs I've only been male once and even then I left her behind. I still feel guilty, but... meh lol.

I didn't feel as bad about it when I played male shep, I had romanced Ashley though in that instance.

When I played as MaleShep I did so with the intention of romancing her, but I just couldn't. I didn't want to romance Liara either, but went for her instead anyway. Did kind of regret it after, but was too late by then.

I did Liara my first playthrough with femshep, to this day i have never gone through the Kaidan one... I just downloaded a copy of someone else's because I wanted to be faithful to Liara with my original run through, and I had cheated on her with Garrus on accident. Used the downloaded save to cheat on Kaidan instead. lol
