Well, most Filipinos would know what today is -- whether it's because it's a holiday, or because they actually cared.

Today, to those who aren't of our country, is when Jose Rizal was executed back in 1896. He was put before a firing squad and executed on the morning of the 30th. And it's been 115 years since.

Strangely, he had always voiced his opposition to a revolt. He thought of it as barbaric and unnecessary. Well, I half-agree with him. There were less violent ways, but the country had been under their rule for far too long. The people needed to see the light. But of course, Rizal had a point, the people needed to be enlightened first as to how things should go. That lack may have contributed to the fact that the Americans had their way with us. The people were oblivious to everything that was happening, and so our country was never freed.

Well, Rizal, I hope your words and intentions permeate the generations. And I wish they'd stop using you for advertising. [Because frankly, I find that disrespectful.]

I hope the Filipinos realize that this man is more than just a reason for a holiday, and I hope they can open their eyes to it all. Not just Filipinos, actually, for he also said:

" Genius has no country. It blossoms everywhere. Genius is like the light, the air. It is the heritage of all. "

You know, actually, I was going to insert a long paragraph about the youth somewhere up there, but I decided against it. Those opinions will be for another time.

Oh, and belated Merry Christmas. I didn't really have something to write about during Christmas, so I'm sorry for greeting you guys really late.

I'll probably type another journal for New Year before I go back to school.
