We were having an afternoon tea... talking about the past… family, friends, stories. The open window is in front of her, to her left. Daylight was dimming fast while I tried to sneak a photo so she wouldn’t notice – she’s never herself in front of a camera.I managed to distract her into thinking I was just messing around with my camera, so she kept talking and rescuing all those stories … some happy, some sad, but all very precious and most importantly… filled with wisdom… wisdom which can be seen in her skin and hair, but specially in her eyes.
Maria de Lourdes is my mother’s mother… a woman who lived a life of many, many paths, a survivor, a very strong woman, a woman who gave all her family love a and taught them to live in this world.
Granddaughter of Portuguese and Italian immigrants, born in 1920. Was married for 64 years and had four children. Today she lives with her sister.
Maybe what makes this photo different is the indescribable love vibrating through my fingertip when I released that shutter, freezing that moment forever and capturing all the pain and all the joy… capturing Infinite Experiences.

I know how it is with trying to capture subjects as the way they truly are, but they can't help but pose or become uneasy when they see the camera. Nice job with getting that photo! How did she respond when she knew you took it?

She still doesn't know!! hehe That's because if I show her, she'll learn that a camera in my hand means "bad news". And I still wanto to take many more photos of her, so...I still have resisted the temptation!

I Love this...so much wisdom behind those eyes! We can learn so much from the elderly, and yet we tend to toss them aside!! Im a caregiver and work with the elderly everyday, I absolutely love my job, the people I meet and the amazing stories they have.
