Will you also do the flags of the Warsaw Treaty Alliance?

I've designed pretty much all of the flags, I just need to get around to putting them together as a chart.

That communist symbol for Greece is sweet, with the democracy Delta. Where did you get it?

the Delta was used by the Democratic Army of Greece

Brilliant job! But Portugal`s coat of arms would propably be changed, as currently it has strong Christian symbology (blue shields in form of a cross, which have 5 dots representing 5 wounds of Christ). And Communists were big on removing Coat of arms.
Still, really brilliant job! Portugal`s flag and CoA are absolutely amazing, same with Germany.Β

Fair point. I kept it mostly mostly due to its strong and continuous association with portugal and the fact that czechoslovakia, bulgaria & albania retained their arms (albeit modified) after turning communist.

I must say that an issue that has been plagueing my mind for a while regarding Scandinavian flags is their communist counter parts-- and the vexillological solution you've presented I think is simply perfect! Naturally their cross could not remain for obvious communist reasons, but turning it into the aggressive and spiffy looking arrow-esque figure certainly looks amazing!
In short: What you've done with the Scandinavian flags in terms of communist symbolism is stunningly perfect, and I applaud you!

I think the cross is bent into a Norse life rune instead.

thanks. If I were to remade them though, I think I would drop the horizontal line near the hoist and only keep the other 3.

I'm still doing some research. Although realistically many of its members would simply use their current flags, I'd rather make it a bit more interesting.

technically speaking, what we see as the british nationl flag was historically* Β the union flag representing the monarch. Its use did not, again technically speaking, meant that a regiment or vessel bearing it was british but were subjects of the british monarch. For that reason, the in-story reason is that a new communist government decided to dump the flag with crosses but kept the colours.
I did think of the commonwealth-era flag or the chartrist flag but both had a religious undertone that didn't seem to feel right for what I had in mind.Β
* In addition, in canada it is still officially called the Royal Union Flag and used for events in connection to the monarch.

It wasn't really meant to be a one on one equivelent as NATO and the Warsaw Pact had different number of members OTL but the USSA, West Germany, Belgium and France are pretty much what went through my mind.
Taiwan and the PRC would be inverted in my mind and the non-aligned ones might have different regime within the Lukewarm Peace but may not always be non-communist = communist and vice versa. In some cases, it might just be a case of having a regime more amiable to whatever political philosophy is followed by the ATL country of which sphere of influence they are part of.

Certainly a frightening prospect indeed! The sad thing is that this isn't just alternate history, but also a possible future if the nations of the free world continue to shift to the left.
I noticed that you used the flag of the Second Spanish Republic. Good clue! Now, if it's not just a simple 'bizarro universe' concept, here's my take on how the world got here: a socialist victory in the Spanish Civil War, combined with Roosevelt's continued introduction of communist poison to the U.S. under the guise of a 'new deal' and a rising leftist force in the British Commonwealth likely led to this shift in Cold War positions. Maybe a stronger version of the shortly lived Paris commune, too.
How Russia managed to beat Lenin and his red cronies is beyond me. I'd like to see the Warsaw Treaty Alliance flags soon!

maybe it's your use of the words "communist poison", "red cronies" and "leftist force" but I'm having trouble deciding if you're a member of the Tea Party or someone who went to sleep under McCarthyism and just now woke up.

The-Artist-64 In reply to marcpasquin [2016-04-05 22:24:06 +0000 UTC]
You know, I honestly saw that coming. Nope, McCarthy wasn't necessarily a good man. He was turning a political struggle into a religious one. You can have your opinions, but don't laugh me off as some McCarthyist.
I say this because communism is a very large threat to the freedom of mankind. It's no more irrational then seeing the danger in Nazism or religious extremism. It has led to millions of innocent lives being lost. Mao's regime, for example, was responsible for the deaths of over 73 million people- in comparison, Hitler's party killed 2 million.

Cuba has a lower infant mortality rate then the US so by your logic, capitalism is more of threat to infants then communism.
To think that communism by itself is the same as an ideology based on hatred of peoples for reasons beyond their control is ludicrous.
π: 0 β©: 1
The-Artist-64 In reply to marcpasquin [2016-04-05 23:32:16 +0000 UTC]
Is that really my logic? When did I ever assert that higher death rates meant more evil? I was simply comparing the numbers to show that the communists killed a LOT more people in China alone. Communism was, from the start, a corrupt system. It removes the very motivation that makes everyone strive to improve- income. Without a reason to be happy, why would you work?
Moreover, gulags were said to be even worse than concentration camps. Is it ludicrous to say that anΒ ideology based on hatred of peoples for their will to speak their mind is evil? You're kidding yourself. I'm surprised people still support this crap even after the disastrous fall of the Soviet Union, Nicaragua and Yugoslavia. Even the Chinese had to tone their system back after it resulted in huge economic depression, widespread starvation and the 1989 atrocity.
Communists kill anyone who speaks out against them. If it's so glorious, then why were people wanting to risk their lives just to escape? Why did everyone flee to the United States, the world's bastion of democracy and freedom, and why didn't you hear about any stories of people fleeing to Cuba or the Soviet Union?
