Description Well, after deciding which way to go on my previous sketches, I continued developing the bag. I decided not to do the double clasp idea because it wouldn't be as convenient to close and would be more difficult to keep the lid balanced, etc. Plus, the ideas I have for clasps would work better with one then two.

So I couldn't decide on a few closures, so I sketched them up so you could see. The first would probably be my choice. It's a tongue that lays over a brass loop and then a strap ontop of the tongue goes through the loop to keep it secure. You undo it by pulling the tongue out of the loop. Looks neat and functions smoothly.

The other best choice is the buckle, while it's simpler then the first design, it's still adjustable and holds well.

The third idea is to have a locking clasp. Sometimes it might be nice to lock it, but most of the time unnecessary. Also, it can only be closed at one depth (so you can't over pack it) and since the lock mechanism is more complex, it has a chance of breaking (or loosing the key).

The last idea involves a brass plate with a keyhole shape slot in it. A metal stud goes into the large hole and slips down holding the lid down. While this idea looks attractive and is really easy to use, it doesn't hold as securely as the others. Probably better on a smaller bag size.

Other then that I have sketched ideas for what the back and side pockets will look like and the last sketch shows how I'm going to do the side panels and partition (without side pocket sketch). I'm going to put a pleat in the back compartment so it collapses when not full.

I love seeing your concept process. Can't wait to see the finished product!

I agree (: Either of the top two, anyway.

I agree too - the strap and loop is awesome. The button key-hole idea is cool too tho!

I think I agree with you for the first one.

My freakangels bag has a sort of combo lock/button as you drew them, it's a metal tab that turns horizontal or vertical, and the front flap of the bag has a metal grommet with a space for the tab to fit through while at a 45 degree angle. When the tab is turned back to 0 it holds the front flap in place. I'm sure that's a horrible way of explaining it, but it's another idea that might work. Rather simple, no need for a key, and has worked fine for me for months now.

Those sort of closures are good, but the way this one works that I sketched out is just a stud that slips through a hole, it doesn't turn to lock or anything, so only good for smaller or flap heavy bags.

I like the strap and loop idea. Looks nice in the sketches. The buckle closure would be my second pick.
