the shadows on her calves and the green and yellow interplay on the left are killer.

Not really, just one time when it was 105 degrees, and it was matted only, at Clayton's. I am flattered that you think it is nice enough to show. It is so very tight though. I wish it was a bit more fluid.

Also, I really love the way the light and shadow falls on the (privet) hedge along the left.

This looks seriously good on here. First, I really like the colour and handling of the trees and sky. Next, I am in awe of your super-competent figure and bike. Did you do a value study to get the tones right for the street lamp and trees? I would have gotten into a spectacular muddle. I saw your earlier studies and it is to your credit that you persevered here. You are really building your skill tackling these challenges.

Great sky! The lamp post shows up as the center of interest to me, especially the lower portion. I like the little squared off plants (bricks) along the path, great color work in them. Very nice...

Wow, beautiful!

I can see you spent a lot of time and were very careful with all the details (especially in the lantern and the bike, what control over waterpaint!). There is so much to like about this; you did the trees well, the lantern, very nice summery scene (love how you put the scene in a yellowish light, including the clouds, gives it a warm summery feel), creating a sense of depth by leaving the bushes at the end of the road vague.

Brilliant work of art!

I suspect you paint a lot, but only upload one once in a while?

Hmmm, I paint a lot but very slowly! I am always thinking/drawing/designing and photographing, and then when I am ready I begin a painting. Often I stop the painting in the middle of the process because I am taking it too seriously and/or want to step back from it because I can no longer see it with fresh eyes. Then I might lose interest and begin a new piece.

Thank you for the kind words regarding this piece, it was done to participate in a challenge painting with a watercolor group I am involved with on Flickr. It wasn't my photo of the lamp post in the park, it was someone else's. I added the figure and bicycle, this was a woman in Florence in a cool leather suit that was an amazing shade of orange!

I recognize the losing interest part. I still have that still life oil painting of army boots I need to finish... I don't know how others do it. You have to let a layer dry for a week, and then you are already working on other things, and lost interest in the painting. I think the army boots composition is boring now...

I think it is good to leave something and to return to it the next day though, as you see new things, and things you don't like about what you did yesterday. That does work well for me. Just leave the idea that I *have* to make a good drawing, and instead just calmly chug along, making sure at every step everything about the drawing is good before I go to the next step. That usually results in a satisfying drawing for me.

Funny as it is a thing I had to learn, stopping on time before I start ruining the drawing due to fatigue. With ink and such you can really ruin days of work. When I wrote computer programs that was not so much a problem. Last few hours you wouldn't be productive due to fatigue (and you wouldn't notice), but you could always repair that the next day. Not so with Indian ink

Any way, good to see you're still enjoying painting!

Greetings from Japan! Superb country.

I really like how you handle the watercolors to achieve tonality and depth! Well done!
