Description

This took longer than expected... almost a month of drawing and redrawing and changing things especially in regard to his wings. Then lastly, his weapon where I combined a pole-arm with a mage staff, so he could use it for raining spells down from above...

The idea started after I visited Meteora during Easter and while going upon the road I kept looking through the windows at the rock formations and i kept saying to myself that this was a good place for angels to take flight with the height and all... Then I came back home and the idea morphed into a winged warrior who can also use spells, something like the Avariel elves if you will...

whoa! you're really good at shading and those wings look so real! i also really love the shining of the metal and the crystal thing at the very end of it.

(From ProjectComment )
This is really good and a lot better than me. From looking at it there isn’t any obvious errors. Anatomy 👌, Line 👌, colour👌, shading 👌. Like I said really good. I would honestly kill for artistic talent like this (and the ability to use digital art). You aced this and the refs were amazingly used. (Please can you help and artistic idiot like myself).
Very well done and you should be very proud of this drawing. Hopefully I can see more fantastic art like this (Srry I’m bad at constructive comments)

That’s good and no issue. Your better than a lot and u can use digital art (which I see as a talent bc I’m dumb and cannot)

Wow, you know, if you got just a little better at art, you could draw for D&D.
Like, your shading is through the roof!
And I love all the different brushes you must have used.
Maybe the weapon could be a little mor- ...

...Was the name a pun?...

I actually used the pun as a way not to talk about the weapon, because though it's drawn fine, I'm not a fan of its design.
But I don't really know why though.
Maybe it looks to science fiction to me. But I'm weird.

This is a great piece of art!(Idk if it's fan art or anything like that)I especially love the mountain backgrounds it gives a old painting sort of vibe that I haven't that many digital drawings do that before so,It's refreshing to see a piece of art do that! But i feel the style of weapon and the character sort of clashes with the character you may want to try out the same style for both,Also i have no idea what the red smear this next to the blade-ish part on the weapon you may want to make it more clearer to people want it is because from what I can it could be blood/feathers idk tho.The lighting looks a bit to bright you may want to tone that down more and more realistic lighting.Don't get me wrong this is a phenomenal peice but you could improve it a bit more (It's still a great piece I bet that's better than anything that I could do!)

Thank you for your comment and your kind words. The red thingie next to the blade of the weapon is a tassel. It was sometimes attached to Chinese spears for two reasons: 1. it could confuse the opponent vision and make the spear head hard to follow, 2. it could stop the blood from coating the spear shaft which in turn it would have made the spear hard to hold. His weapon is a combination between a pole-arm and a mage staff and since one part of the weapon is composed by a pointy kind of blade it made the addition of the tassel a logical thing in my head. Due to the way in which the weapon is held the tassel is half obscured by the blade. Thank you for pointing out that it can be confusing.

Thank you for pointing out the difference between the background and the character. When I paint I usually divide my work in two: first the character and than the background on two separate smaller projects then when they are both finished separately I put them together, so I think that this is one reason that they still do not flow into one another as they should. Well, this is one aspect that I must work harder on.

Also, thank you for your comment regarding the lighting, I am still working on finding the right balance and sometimes I get carried away.

Thank you again.

This is really nice, don't think I've ever seen a male Avariel drawn before! At first I thought it was Tolkien fan art.
The upper part of weapon he holds looks too bright though, especially the blade, I think you should darken that a bit... and it would probably look more natural if he grabbed it further up, maybe on the brown part of the spear.
Love especially the feathers and the clothes though!

Thank you so much for your comment. You are absolutely right about the weapon it is a bit two bright on the blade. In my head I was thinking about how the sun will suddenly reflect on the blade - something like a sun-flare if you will this is the reason it is a bit too bright. As for the way it is holding the weapon I was a bit conflicted, it is more natural to hold a long weapon closer to its own center of gravity but I did not want the bladed part to obscure part of the character... and there is also the fact that a grip on a long weapon might vary according to the type of blow you want to achieve. (ex: you can hold a stick (jo) closer to its center of gravity when you want to deliver a blow while holding it parallel to the ground or you can hold it with your hands closer to its end near you if you want to deliver a blow in a diagonal). So this is was the thought process that made me decide on how I should place the weapon... Not the most natural position, I know.

Thank you so much for your kind words.

I see what you mean, if the blade was closer to the character it would indeed be less noticable *and* would obscure the character. From an image composition perspective, you proved to have a good eye here, plus diagonal lines are always good for dynamic scenes. Maybe he could grab the weapon with both hands? His other hand is right next to the weapon anyway. That way it would look more natural. Or you could make the weapon longer so that the point where he holds it is the center, if he strikes from the air it's no problem if the rod is longer than him. Either way, I really like this picture - I have often wondered what Avariel would look like in their "natural habitat".
