Description This was some photography I did this weekend for my advertising assignment at tech. The brief is to promote giving blood and this is the image I will use in the final ad... which I will upload when I have confirmed the headline I will use etc.

Finished advert: Give Blood Ad

I mixed red food colouring and indian ink and squirted a small amount into a glass of boiling water (less air bubbles than tap water) using a little cheap pipette. Lots of trial and error to get to this stage!

This image perfectly matches an element on the cover of one of my books. I'd love your permission to use it on my website and possibly as part of some promotion for my next book, but I'll take it down if you prefer, www.jossdey.com/copy-of-books .

Mind if I use this for a fanfic cover art? :3 I wanted to ask permission first.

This is absolutely amazing. You are truly talented. You captured it so clearly,
and the shape of it is rather unique. I haven't come across any other like it.
As other people have mentioned, it reminds me of a jellyfish. (: Also, I
checked out the finished ad and it looks great. Everything is positioned so
perfectly. It's very eye-catching. I hope you don't mind but I used this in
one of my own pieces as a background texture. I credited you, of course,
but if you would like me to remove it I will do so without hesitation!

Its a really good capture and you can just see the movement it had.

I pre focussed on the pipette before squeezing out the ink. Then to display on the web, I use =Alex37 's Web Resize action

I used this photo as a TEMPORARY cover for a book that I am working on. If you would prefer that I didn't just let me know.

Thanks!

Hey, Im glad you like it enough to use it as the temporary cover. Tell me a little more about the book. Is it for a project or a book being published?

You know what? The colour of the "blood" is better than I've seen in movies hahaha good job.
It's also a really clear photo

Thanks! It took a little while to perfect it! It also took a while to figure out the best way to focus! Because every time, the ink would be in a different place. Glad you like it tho!

piffy-ladle In reply to mark-flammable [2009-06-24 00:04:19 +0000 UTC]

So how did you create the shot anyway?
Was it like a glass of water in front of a white panel or something?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

mark-flammable In reply to piffy-ladle [2009-06-24 00:28:31 +0000 UTC]

Glass of boiling water (no air bubbles on the side of the glass with boiling water ) sitting on white card which was bent up behind it... remote flash from beside the glass towards the card... indian ink and red food colouring in a pipette... dunk it in the water, slowly squeeze it out as I took the pipette out of the water.

But now that you mention it, they could be little forces of life pushing their way towards a person in need
