This is a watercolor illustration I did a few years back. It depicts Akiko and Poog, two characters from my "Akiko" comic book series. The scene is an actual location in Fukuyama, Japan, where my wife's parents live (and where my family and I have the good fortune of being able to visit every year or two).Related content

This series shaped so much of my childhood, oh my goodness. Having a series where a little girl got to go to space and be the hero when every other series I found as a kid was about boys, having a series with characters like Gax and Spuckler and poor Mr. Beeba and Poog (man, I love Poog) captured my imagination as a kid.
Frankly, the Akiko series is one of the reasons I grew up holding other scifi kids' series to as high a standard as I did. Thank you for making them, Mr. Crilley.

When I was a little younger I remember always bugging my mom for Akiko books ^^ it was one of my favorites. Actually, this morning or more technically yesterday morning considering the time, I was trying to remember than name Akiko. I can't quite remember why but I do know I wanted to know the name.
Your an amazing artist and your art really inspires me to try and work harder on my own style. It never really stays the same for long. I plan on buying Miki Falls in the near future, and if I get to it maybe drawing some fanart. I could do fanart now but your style isn't all familiar in my head just yet, but once I recognise it off the bat I will draw one.

ever since i watched your vids ive been saying im going to live in japan for a couple of years to get a little inspiration..ahm now im not saying eveyone should go but i think it will work for me since its a diffrent culture
and all but watercoloring seems hard but you make it look like good art you are a great artist and people should know your name

That is an amazing scene. I have such issues with scenery and backgrounds. One of these days, I'm going to have to visit Japan and take billions of pictures and draw hundreds of thousands of sketches...*ahem* Not very realistic, am I?
