Description
This was a back cover illustration for one of my Akiko comics way back in 1998. As you can see, even then I was under the spell of Hayao Miyazaki.Anyone who has seen Totoro will recall the rainy night at the bus stop just before the "neko basu" arrives. I decided to put my characters, Akiko and Poog, into the scene as a tribute to the film and to Miyazaki's influence on my work.

I remember back in 3rd grade, my teacher read us the series to the books, because her first name was Akiko! It was super good!

I absolutely love this image. The composition is great, the style is very cute, and blending the two stories is very well done.
When I was younger I absolutely adored the Akiko series and I still re-read them to this day. Totoro was another favorite of mine and it's great to see them together. And Poog! Who doesn't love Poog?

Tonari no Totoro was the first Miyazaki film I ever saw and it really inspired me to draw and do anime as well. Your tribute to him is fantastic!
