Description A new version of the F-4 Phantom II print. This one depicts the F-4J model in the markings of the VF-114 "Aardvarks" as it appeared during their Gulf of Tonkin cruise aboard the USS Kitty Hawk in 1970. In all, the "Fighting 114" made five combat cruises to Vietnam.

Fantastic, have you ever been contacted to do scale model kit box art? I would think you would be great in making the selling point for a scale model, with your art on the cover.

Thanks. I've spoken with several model companies. So far I haven't come across the right deal.

Wasn't this one a MiG Killer? I remember reading an article about 114 taking out MiGs after a bomb run.

When I was in Vietnam I saw the Phantoms doing air support for our ground troops. Up close that was a spectacular site but believe me it sounded even more awesome. I never was quite close enough to smell the napalm though, and I never had my camera with me to get photos..

That must have been one hell of an experience.

VF-114's always had one of my, if not the, most favorite of US Navy squadron markings.

Amazing picture as seems to be the norm with your gallery, really like the background and the level of detail in there, the lighting over the mountains in the right side of the picture is fantastic.

Great idea, those markings variations
Just in case... did you planned a "Sundowner" version?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

markkarvon In reply to danyboz [2010-11-04 14:44:27 +0000 UTC]

I will probably do a "Sundowner" version but I have to convert the airplane to an F-4B. (IR sensor under nose and shorter engine nozzles.)

This is a great piece I always thought the Phantom is mean looking jet. You captured it well.

Think I preferred it with the Jolley Rodgers but its all sweet with this aircraft

I actually designed the composition so I could change the markings and so they would show to good advantage. Most of the customers I get for my work are the guys who flew or worked on the airplanes day in and day out. I offer the service to customize the markings of their airplane.
