I too prefer DragonBall to Z. The Z stuff is too grim and dire...I prefer the charm and unabashed creativity of the early years. DragonBall is about the only comic book I can think of that compares to Savage Dragon in terms of imagination.
Great rendition, Mark, old boy! I feel compelled at this juncture to request MegaMan, because I think you'd do a good one. Actually, when I saw the thumbnail of your Kick-Ass piece on Facebook, I thought for a second you’d done the Captain N version of MegaMan (I’ve never read Kick-Ass so I didn’t get it immediately).
I think the only problem with the cloud is the tufts are just too uniform.

MegaMan, eh? I've never been a huge fan of that guy. Maybe because I didn't have a Nintendo growing up and when I got the opportunity to play at a friend's house, the game was way too hard for me. I can probably find time to do one of these for MegaMan.
Yeah--the cloud. Sometimes it's tricky to make things look random. Playing around with it in photoshop shouldn't be too big of a problem, since it wouldn't mean redrawing anything else. I'm still on the fence about going back and fixing it after I wrap a few other projects up first.

Definitely has a kind of young Clark Kent vibe, your Goku. I like the redesign, and yea it's not easy to make a cloud look solid without it looking like the body of a sheep, ice cream, or something. Its very cloud-like though, especially with the style you drew this in.

Thank you for taking the time to look at this and offering your feedback! I was hoping just drawing him in a different style would be enough to count as a redesign. Heh. I certainly think if I'd fluffed the cloud up too much, it would look more cartoony than the rest of the piece and become a bit distracting. It's a tough balancing act, for sure. Someone more talented than me could easily pull this off better, no doubt.

Oh I wouldn't say that you didn't pull it off, as it very much looks like a cloud. ^_^

Interesting! I tried to keep him younger looking, so maybe that has something to do with it?

I think you've done a good job, overall its a very polished piece. What filter did you use to get that effect.
I do agree on you with the cloud, it looks like you struggled a bit. The lines seem thicker at the back and maybe it should be the other way round.
Good job all round I think

Thanks for the kind words! I used a color-halftone effect which looks kind of weird when reduced in size like this, but I can still kinda dig it.
Yeah--that damn cloud. It just looks like lumpy mashed potatoes to me. I think I was trying to stiffen it up a bit so it would make more sense for him to stand on it but it needs to be fluffier. I think I can still go back and fix this at some point.
