Personality:

Emrys is strong, determined young man who is a bit socially awkward, but it's mostly due to people treating him differently than he's used to. He feels especially awkward in company of other elves. The Templars make him nervous, because of Gwynnan's tales about them, which probably aren't true anyway, because Gwynnan himself never met any hostile Templars.

He is a bit of a free spirit, he hates boredom and stagnation. Him and his brother were quite adventurous, and part of him still longs for life of a buccaneer. He likes exploring/discovering new things, both academically and in more adventurous seeking ways.

He is generally a very nice, tactful person, but when he is comfortable enough around someone he lets his snarky personality run wild.

He is very loyal and for his friends and family he is capable of doing almost anything.

Likes:
| cats | adventures | his family | sarcastic humour | tea |

Dislikes:

Biography:

Emrys' history begins with his mother's capture and subsequent shipping to the Tevinter Imperium, just a couple of months before her delivery date. Before the faithful day that changed her life forever she was living a life full of hardships in the Alienage, where she had to fight everyday for survival, but at lest she was free. Journey to the Imperium was hard for a pregnant woman, but her indomitable spirit helped her throughout any obstacles fate had thrown at her, and this time was no different.

Perhaps it was a lucky coincident or a divine providence, that put newly assigned Magister, Gwynnan, on the same slave market that Cerdwin was being sold on. He was looking for a wet nurse for his first born son – Owein, whose mother had died in childbirth, leaving him widower and his son motherless. One look at pregnant Cerdwin, standing in the line with other slaves, chained and starved waiting to be bought by a future master was enough for Gwynnon to take pity upon her. He acquired her for not small sum of money and brought her with him to his estate.

Gwynnan quickly proved that he was nothing like other Tevinter Magisters, he was born in Ferelden, to a small family, where he was raised as an Andrastean. His father, a woodcutter, was killed by wolfs not long after Gwynnan's birth. When his mother realised that her son was a mage she decided to keep him with herself at any cost as he was the last thing that her late husband giftet her with.

From that moment on she dedicated her life to keeping her son safe and as far from the Circle as possible. They often moved from place to place in order to not attract Templar's attention. For a couple of years Gwynnan lived relatively happily, but he also knew that he was putting his mother's life in danger every day. When he turned 16 he decided to travel to the Tevinter Imperium. His mother's only request was for her son to never practice blood magic and never to put ones ambitions above other persons well being. With that promise Gwynnan left Ferelden and his mother to never see them again. The journey to the Tevinter wasn't easy. After finally reaching the Imperium he enlisted in the Circle of Magi where his intelligence and fast learning skills impressed one of the Magisters who took him as his apprentice.

Despite years spent in the Imperium, Gwynnan never changed his way of thinking, his mother's upbringing and promise that he gave her too deeply embeded into him. He never even thought about striking a deal with a demon or using blood magic. His opinion on slavery was also not one you often see in the Imperium, his Fereldan upbringing making him quite resentful of that particular practice. Because of those believes he rarely proclaimed them openly in the Circle. His mentor's teachings and Gwynnan's intellect and drive to constantly better himself allowed him to quickly become a Magister. Despite his status he was considered eccentric by his peers.

During months leading to Emrys's birth Cerdwin was living an 'enchanted' life. Thanks to Gwynnan's kind heart she was, probably for the first time in her life, sleeping in a comfortable bed and eating better then ever before. When she finally gave birth to little Emrys, Gwynnan took it upon himself to raise both, his son and new born elf, as equals.

During years that followed, Gwynnan fell deeply in love with Cerdwin and treated Emrys, from the day of his birth, practically as his own son. Both, Owein and Emrys, were raised by Cerdwin and Gwynnan to become good, noble people with ideals of freedom and equality.

With Cerdwin's people's judgement on relationships with humans she was at first reluctant about her own growing feelings for Gwynnan, but she couldn't deny her love for him forever. After few years Gwynnan finally decided to court Cerdwin properly and after a couple of months they started a relationship, making Emrys and Owein extremely happy for their parents.

When Emrys manifested his powers for the first time at the age of eight, Gwynnan was very happy to have the opportunity to pass his knowledge to his 'adopted' son. He took him as his apprentice in order to protect Emrys from life in the Tevinter Circle, full of spoiled and decadent Tevinter mages who weren't afraid to use any means to climb up the social ladder.

During following years Gwynnan taught Emrys everything he knew about controlling ones power and protecting oneself from demons inhabiting the Fade He warned Emrys about dangers of pride and power which so often corrupted even the best of mages. He passed his knowledge to Emrys hoping that he'll grow up to be everything the Tevinter Magisters weren't – loyal, kind and responsible with his powers.

What Gwynnan didn't understand as a young boy, he understood as a Tevinter Magister - mages left without any supervision are prone to corruption, because nothing corrupts as quickly as power if it's used without any repercussions. He made Emrys understand that despite keeping mages imprisoned in Circles was wrong, leaving them without anyone to enforce the law upon them was even worse.

For many years Emrys lived happily with his mother and his 'foster' family. When both Owein and Emrys were 15, their parents finally married in secret. The happiness didn't last long and three years after they marriage, a tragedy struck the family, when Cerdwin died during childbirth, together with her newborn daughter.

During the year that followed Cerdwin's death, Owein married Gwynnan's best friend's daughter. On the night of their one year wedding anniversary, Gwynnan was poisoned and soon followed his beloved wife. Gwynnan's death was work of the Magisters fed up with his opinions. Marrying elven slave was just the last drop in an already full cup of Gwynnan's oddities and the Magisters weren't capable of tolerating them anymore.

On his death bed Gwynnan told Emrys to run from the Imeprium because Emrys haven't passed his Harrowing and it was only the matter of time before the Magisters would come to take him to the Circle. Gwynnan also told him to not resist the Templars in case they'll catch him, because freedom wasn't always more important than staying alive.

Both brothers knew, that Emrys couldn't stay at the estate any longer, Gwynnan's protection ended together with his death and at the same night their father breathed his last breath out Emrys packed all his belongings and tried to leave his home unnoticed. Owein andwith his wife, together with their daughter, was waiting for Emrys at the estate's entrance. Owein, before saying his goodbyes, gave Emrys their father's staff, saying that it should belong to the elf. With heavy heart Emrys left his family behind and left Minrathous, just a few weeks before the Chantry exploded in Kirkwall.

Emrys travelled across the Imperium and Nevarra for weeks, never staying in one place longer than few days. And finally, after crossing The Wimmarck Mountains, he found himself in the Free Marches. Around him, world was changing and when Emrys finally reached Kirkwall in 9:39 Dragon the fights were at it's end and Emrys could safely hide in the Kirkwall's Alienage.

After months of sneaking around and hiding, he finally decided to join the Kirkwall Circle before the Templars would track him down. Soon after him enlisting in the Circle he successfully passed his Harrowing. Emrys is pleasantly surprised at freedom he has despite being one of the Circle Mages, based upon what he heard from Gwynnan about how closed and supervised they one were. He tries to tell apostates he meets during his adventures that it isn't necessarily that bad to register in the Circle and certainly it's safer than life in constant fear of being caught, or worse, killed by the Templars. He advocates, that mage can obtain both wisdom and power without any aid from the demons. His message to mages is that with great power should go a great responsibility, because without one it's possible that another Imperium could arise.

Not long ago he heard that his brother, now a wealthy merchant, relocated his family to Starkhaven.
