There are limits at how historically inaccurate a movie should be and if you should hate it for that.
There are films that show a veryΒ adaptation of what they're based on a true story, like "Pochahontas" and "300", and that's fine.
Then there are films that are proprely called "Movies about fictional history" which are about fictional characters who interact with history exploiting it just in favor of their own story like "Watchmen", "Captain America: the first Avenger", "Hellboy", "Asterix & Obelix" and "Top Secret".
They're NOT about respecting history, all they want to do is just having their fiction featuring it for entertainment porpuses, and that's fine.
Then there are ACTUAL movies based on real life, the biopics and historical movies. The best being "Amadeus", "The Elephant Man", "Milk", "Downfall", "Apollo 13", "Joyeux NoΓ«l", "Ed Wood" and my all time favorite: "American Splendor". These are great movies that do a great job in depicting the people and the historical moments they rapresent and they have a flawless balance in being informative AND being great films.
"Cinderella Man" and "A Beautiful Mind" take MANY liberties on what they're based on, BUT AT VERY LEAST they're good movies on their own.
...Then we get to BULLSHIT like "Alexander", "Pearl Harbor" and THIS ABOMINATION which take the duty of actual biopics and historical movies but miserably fail both at respecting the people and the events they're based on AND even at being good movies on their own merits.
They're offensive for being historically inaccurate because they took the responsability of showing realt facts seriously.

No fucking shit. If you want a better film about a rebellious sort of person who helps treat the sickly, Dallas Buyers Club is a better choice.

*There are films that show a very artsy depiction of what they're based on, like "Pocahontas" and "300", and that's fine.

At least the scientists at emotional movies inc. knew enough to realize that was a bad idea. That would have made this bad movie even worse.

NC: "People, this move is disgusting! If you wanna talk about emotional interactions with your patients, fine! If you wanna practice new forms of medicine, fine! But...DO IT AS A FUCKING ADULT! NOT THIS CHILDISH PIECE OF ABSTRACT BULLSHIT! You know what you do? Don't watch the fictional, bad Patch Adams. *spits on movie* Watch the real factual Patch Adams. I looked him up. His work is fascinating, and it simply works around acting like a jackass. He's a professional. He takes his patients seriously. Every experience is different, and he works hard! And, wouldn't you know it, he didn't like this movie very much. He said it portrayed him as just a clown, instead of a hard working doctor who did practice medicine with a license, did NOT steal from a hospital and had a MALE best friend who sadly lost his life and was not some romantic foil!"

yeah Patch Adams is like the most universally hated movie. And now with the NC review I learned that even the guy the movie's based on hates it.

well I would hate it to if the movie made me look like nothing more than a clown pretending to be a doctor and then out of the 2.1 million made, none of it went to my organization that was made to help poor people get medical care.

Oh wow. This movie is a freaking INSULT to the real Patch Adams. Instead of portraying him in a truthful way, they made him look crazy!
And I don't blame Robin Williams for this. The script was just utter crap.
And it deserved getting the belt from the Critic!

I found the whole 'manipulation' speech from Doug hilarious. Not because it was funny, but because of the overwhelming hypocrisy of it: Doug gets mad at P.A when it manipulates, yet he had no problem deleting footage from 'The Phantom' (an entire subplot featuring the Phantom's Father) and manipulating the footage to make the film more shallow than it actually is. Way to shoot yourself the foot, Doug.
As for the review, it was decent.

For some reason, I really feel like you stepped up your stylization and skill level on this one? Even in a tiny thumbnail in the sidebar on the site, it worked really well, and your coloring has gotten as confident as your linework. If I could say anything at all, it be to maybe try a bit more variance in line width besides thin and tapered edge, but that's just subjective nitpicking. Great image.

Ah Robin Willains. when you're funny, you are really funny.....but then there's 80 of your films. Why aren't you like the NC, funny all the time (well except when he's being serrious, but even that can grant a giggle)?
