Description Following the blood-stained path of war in service to the chapter of the Hallowed Glaive , these are the most numerous warriors of the Blood Brethren. Armed and augmented to face the foes of the Imperium on any world, they are a highly disciplined and indoctrinated force, fully commited to be mortal companions in arms with Astartes, warrior angels of the Emperor.
By the nature of their homeworld Nimbus Laurentia , these men of Laurentia's Kin are most accustomed to battle the beast and the machines of heretechs - their most common foes met in the Thetys Rift. In battle, they are methodical and ruthless, working in autonomous teams under direct conjunction with space marines. To keep up with the Astartes, mobility and steadfast morale are the most highly valued qualities in the Blood Brethren.

Mart, remind me, the Carbine trooper, they use Radium Carbines? I only ask because they cause intense radiation poisoning to their user and anyone around them which may be bad for troops who are not seen as expendable (unlike the Skittarii)

Well, Carbine Troopers are similarly to Skitarii capable of withstanding radiation a lot better than regular humans (that's part of their advantages as a vat-bred people who were specifically designed to be candiates for Astartes Initiation). Of course, the Radium weaponry is still harmful, but that sort of risk is something the Brethren will allow themselves to take for the purpose of the combat effectiveness of their troops. They are not seen as expendable in so far as they are not carelessly gonna be thrown at enemy formations. That doesn't mean their factions would shy away from giving them dangerous or even deadly arms.

Suppose that makes sense then.

Round about as much as it does to use plasma weaponry as a member of the Imperial Guard. There's a chance it'll blow up in your face, but you are still considered fairly competent to have received such a weapon in the first place - so you are less expendable than the regular lad, but still given a weapon more likely to kill you by accident.

Are quality and potency of their arms and armors comparable to Skitarii? Not a single one of them is equipped with simple lasguns and armor.

Martechi In reply to Varunas12 [2019-03-27 11:38:59 +0000 UTC]

Yes, comparable to Skitarii infantry, though they don't have as wide a range of exotic vehicles, automatons and Walkers at their disposal. Of course, they are also not deployed in numbers nearly as great as a regular Imperial Guard Regiment.

The reason for this is mostly the fact that These are recruited from a vat-grown Population. Since the Mechanicus already invests considerable resources in their creation, the individual soldier of this force is not seen as quite as expendable and therefore equipped with better arms and armor.

Splendid. Thus do they rely on mundane Astra Militarum vehicles and aircraft? And do you have future plan to elaborate more specialized, notable forces of each faction, such as Glaive Squires or Praetor Kastelans?

The Blood Brethren operate almost exclusively together with the Astartes forces of the Hallowed Glaive, which itself maintains a highly mechanized doctrine. So, in most instances, the brethren would be provided with vehicles and supporting units by the chapter, or possibly by Mechanicus units supporting the campaign. Nevertheless, it's, of course, safe to assume they have some number of their own armored transports and tanks of high quality Militarum patterns.

Varunas12 In reply to Martechi [2019-03-28 22:00:16 +0000 UTC]

Thus vehicles of Brethren could be either Astartes vehicles, or Mechanius, or even Militarum patterns?

Martechi In reply to Varunas12 [2019-03-28 23:57:52 +0000 UTC]

Indeed. However Militarum patterns would be the only ones that really "belong" to the Brethren officially. Astartes Vehicles would be temporarily given to them (although temporarily in the context of 40k may of course still mean centuries) by the chapter and Mechanicus vehicles would be equally given only part-time.

Are there other Laurentian besides the Brethren who serve in the path of the blood?

Are the merchants, who seem like nobility equivalent of Laurentia, stemmed from the path of the forge? Also, does service in steel consist of majority of Laurentia's Kin?

Martechi In reply to Varunas12 [2019-03-31 22:02:11 +0000 UTC]

No, the brethren pretty much are the path. Of course, only the best of Laurentia's kin manage to rise far enough to fight by the side of astartes, others might remain in lower tiers.

Service in steel does include the majority and yes, also merchants. Nobility on Laurentia does not really exist, but the closest thing to it would be the highest masters of each of the path, not confined to steel.

More or less. For more details, I'd have to refer you to your local Magos who's specialized in Skitarii Weaponry!

They're like a mix of Skitarii and Solar Auxilia, wouldn't you agree?

In terms of style, for sure!

Treadz2000 In reply to Martechi [2019-02-16 17:49:49 +0000 UTC]

So...what are they exactly? Are they Skitarii, Chapter Serfs, Imperial Guardsmen, or PDFs?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Martechi In reply to Treadz2000 [2019-02-19 23:01:19 +0000 UTC]

I believe they'd qualify as Chapter Serfs more than anything else. They are an army of their own, but almost exclusively to fight alongside their chapter and acting as garrison etc.

That said, they may technically also be the PDF force for Laurentia.

Stargazzer811 [2019-02-13 21:15:57 +0000 UTC]

So these guys are kinda like the chapter serfs for the Hallowed Glaive. A disciplined and well armed force in their own right, kinda like the Imperial Guard, but subservient to the chapter.

Martechi In reply to Stargazzer811 [2019-02-13 22:12:16 +0000 UTC]

Pretty much! The most unusual thing about them would probably the slight leaning toward skitarii equipment and weaponry. Like their chapter, they are closely tied with AdMech.
