Description 986.M41

In the ruins of Cambria's infernal wastes the Mechanicus found the antithesis of all organic life, a source of exotic energies and radiation entirely adverse to everything remotely understood as foundations of human existence. Faced with such a realm, the servants of the Omnissiah had to rely on the machines and their spirits the Machine God provides. To uncover the secrets from which all human souls are barred, the priesthood of the Cult Mechanicus Cambria mobilized automate legions.
Soulless metal soldiers marched into the fire by their thousands with each rank, and their formations were soon lost amid the smoke and unholy light, so that none but the most closely bonded engineseers could know anything about the progress of their mission. But a direct intervention of the Mechanicus was not needed, as the priests had conducted the operation in its entirety through the arcane power of binary code. Each column leader of the automata legion would carry a black box encased in pure sapphire crystal and obsidian, and within it was stored a vast catalog of simulations, logical networks, and algorithms. With these, so the Mechanicus predicted, the machines would be able to enact any action necessary to recover artifacts of note from the burning heartland of the infernal wastes.
This was a most ambitious undertaking and highly contested within the ranks of the Archmagos's hierarchy. For the strategem-tactical catalog of the automata legions akin to an eerie echo of ancient times, when last the machines of man had walked on their own. But the highest council of priests upon Cambria had been satisfied by oath and testimony, that within the black sapphire boxes, there was no spark of sentience, only the strict adherence to determined maxims.
