Description

The learned soldiers of Trantor are exceptionally well trained and educated in the art of vanquishing the Imperium's foes. Their loyalty is rooted neither in fear nor ignorance, but the understanding of the fundamental necessity of war for the survival of the human race. For this reason they are known to be steadfast in both body and mind, withstanding the horrors of even of the Thetys Rift to a greater degree than many mortals elsewhere.

Their sanity is aided to a large degree by the implants and the permanent link to the governance machine, allowing their minds to repel the corruptions of the warp and recognize lies overwhelming individuals of the whole. Whilst not brandishing much rare or relic weaponry, their conventional arms follow more intricate and specialized patterns, requiring greater skill and maintenance, but of much greater effectiveness.

Renown for pristine arms and armor, their sight is said to foretell victory, for the Milites Eruditi are deployed only at the sight of mighty allies raised on Trantor, which their support, lead and punish for any transgression. Whilst their army as a whole is known to bring victory, they are seen also as arrogant, keeping to their own, for they maintain stronger ties to the corps of commissars than the common guardsmen of other regiments.

I wish you were a Author at Black Library; you build so much rich lore which should be canon.

Ah well, I'm very happy creating stuff just as an amateur. When working on official stuff, you always have to consider the proper canon and the wishes of a whole company. In general, I never had much ambition in doing any creative work professionally. As much of an opportunity it is, I don't think I'd enjoy it very much

With Guilliman back, it would actually be possible that some of your notions of a less grimdark (or at least grimstupid) Imperium will become canon.

I love how you did the helmets and the armor. Keep up the good work

Digging those helmets.

What is the weapon on the middle meant to be?

Thanks! They are actually based roughly on some night-vision helmet designs I found.

All weapons here are supposed to be Lasgun variants (in keeping with the theme of this force utilizing very conventional, but high-quality weaponry). From left to right, the four regular troopers have: Sorta "Assault rifle" Lasgun variant , Shotgun variant , high-powered variant , long range variant

You seem to nail the artwork of 40k excellently, to a degree I (sadly) seldom see. The fusion of the erratic steampunk of the Mechanicum and the soldiers/scholars’ regimented nature, for example, is exemplary. A sort of unique uniformity, if you take my meaning. Most excellent, indeed.

Well, I don't have the skill to produce the sort of high-quality painting style much of 40k artwork uses - always wanted to get into it, but currently, I don't have the patience. So I try to make up for it with worldbuilding. And for that, I really only make one unusual assumption: Just imagine people in 40k actually being good at their jobs.

In general, I just like to imagine things in 40k being the way they are out of necessity, based in the worldbuilding. Often, 40k fiction just sticks to a set of grim-dark archetypes for the sake of it and that leads to some dull and worn-out ideas. So, I try to approach it from a different perspective  - mostly by trying to take the 40k galaxy a little bit more seriously than is generally recommended

Indeed. A fair amount of fan-made content is leagues better than anything that... *Mat Ward*, and his accolades can come up with. Case in point: the Ultima founding.
And it’s all very well being grimdark, that’s the type of universe the 41st millennium is, but some *nuance*, some *variance*, goes miles. It’s just become ridiculous, over-used and contrived (in the sense they’re actively retconning a fair amount of stuf & all that).
But the serious approach isn’t so bad, as long as one is aware that you’re being purposeful in it.
Sorry for the ramble, see you later (I guess).

Thanks!

Yeah, efficiency! Not the strong-suit of the Imperium for sure. That's the main reason I chose the Administratum and Mechanicus as the two dominant imperial institutions in the Gondwana Sector. For them, it makes the most sense to consider efficiency and not to waste any resource - even soldiers.
