Description Suicide really isn't something amusing, and I am absolutely stunned by how many people I know laugh when, on TV, someone tells someone else to go kill themselves.

Regardless of whether you truly mean it or not, "joking" about someone taking their own life is just sickening.

I have personally never lost someone by way of suicide, but I have had a friend who'd worried me. My mother lost her best friend in High School because she committed suicide. I can tell you, any time my mom mentions this friend, she can only cry.

I don't blame suicide on the victim, and often times, someone else provokes a person to take that action. My mother's friend was picked on, and for someone to take their own life over a problem at school tells you that she was more than picked on; she was harrassed.

Quite frankly, suicide is absolutely tragic.

When someone is so done with their own life that he or she is willing to take it away from themselves, all he or she needs is a companion to show that their lives are meaningful.

THANKS, IN ADVANCE, FOR ALL OF THE FAVORITES.

EDIT: Just updated the appearance a little. (:

i once tried to kill myself. i started strangling myself with my hands by the neck and for a split second everything went red then black and i woke up on the floor with a headache and broken neck, so i went to the hospital and lied saying i fell down the stairs. but if you were in the situation i was in you would think the same way im sure.

i will never again try to kill myself, god wouldnt be happy with me.

I lost my dad to suicide in 2009 and was hospitalized for suicide attempts. Suicide is far from funny.

I couldn't agree more.
Suicide is horrible! It's certainly no laughing matter! I lost a very close friend of mine around one year ago, as the result of a suicide and it was HORRIBLE to go through something like that.
I can't say I've never laughed about it on TV, because I have, but that was before I actually knew what it was all about and how hard it is for the people left behind to cope with.
The friend I lost was 17 when she committed suicide, and recently, just around Christmas, the younger sister of a classmate of mine committed suicide, she were only 15, the same age as MY younger sister.
Having a friend, relative or even a person you barley know commit suicide is, by far, some of the worst thing you can go through in life.
If you for example, ever, even have a thought about committing suicide, GET HELP. It's absolutely tragic that a person ends up taking away their own life. I can barely express how sad it is.

I was thinking of suicide until I was helped. Now I'm happier than ever. Suicide is no laughing matter, it's serious and if the person isn't helped early, it's too late.

People joke about suicide because they don't understand it. They have never felt that amount of desperation. That feeling where you just want it all to pause. To stop. Where you wish you could go back years ago, when you thought it was so bad, but it was really great, and enjoy it more. When you see kids playing, and really want to go up to them and warn them to enjoy their life, to forgive and forget, and save the drama for later.

Who can blame the victim for suicide? There's a REASON they are going to that extent just to get a break...or in the case of successful suicide, an eternal break from life. Blame the people who harassed him/her, or knew how upset they were and didn't do anything about it. It's one thing to have suspicions, but if you KNOW someone is going to commit suicide or really wants to, then you HAVE to do something about it.

I do sometimes joke about my own suicide, which I admit is pretty tasteless... My parents aren't too bothered (because they don't think I'm serious) but my friends REALLY don't like it, because they know I've actually tried.

Yeah, I'm a horrible person.

I once prevented a lady friend from killing herself by threatening to have sex with her corpse after she died. It went something like this:

Me: "Hey, are you going to kill yourself?"

Girl: "Yeah, I can't take the rot and decay of this putrid world."

Me: "Wow...okay, I won't stop you, but can we have sex before you jump?"

Her: "What? Ewww! No, you sicko! I don't like people like that!"

Me: "Alright then..."

Girl: -gets ready to jump-

Me: "...I guess I'll just have to wait until you hit the ground, you shouldn't be too busted up, and your blood would make great lubricant."

Girl: -gets off the ledge and runs to a church-

And that is the story of how I met my first girlfriend! 8D

They used to have bullies all the time.
People are weaker now. All the political correctness made us thin-skinned.

However, I feel for the families of the kids who kill themselves, and even wish I could've been there to stand up for them or something.

I do blame it on the victim, because a lot of people don't think it through before they do it, which is why there are failed-suicide attempts. I believe its a person's right to choose whether they want to live or die.

But at the very least, consider the good you're leaving behind before you do it.
Consider how you could end the harrassment WITHOUT dying, and the family that will be affected by it.

Honestly I couldn't think of a better way to send a horrible message to the people who wouldn't stop harrassing them:

"Yeah, feel like an asshole now, don't you?"

I usually don't believe suicide threats, because I've had friends pretend that they were cutting themselves just to get attention.

But they announced it in front of a large group of people, flashing their scab-covered wrists like it was a badge of courage.
I should think one who was serious would pull someone aside and try to keep it private.

:3 But to each their own and the stamp itself, I can honestly agree with<3

I take slight issue with the comment that the only thing suicidal people need is a friend to tell them they're meaningful. Personally, the times I've honestly been suicidal, it hasn't mattered how many friends tell me I'm important to them. It's not always about being meaningless. Sometimes it's just about there being too much shit in your life to deal with.

Sorry if it sounds like I'm getting at you. I very much approve of the stamp, and agree whole-heartedly with everything else you said.

yeah true, and sometimes in that state of mind it's easy not to fully believe them or to downplay to ourselves how much they really do care.

It really bothers me when people joke about suicide and other related things. People don't seem to understand how much one word about it can really hurt someone.

Suicide is very tragic. And what I really dislike is when people refer to suicide as being selfish...theres so much more to it than that. Nice stamp

Oh my gosh...my exact thoughts. It sickens me when people call it selfish. To me, what is selfish is: when people don't offer support and listening to hurting friends.

suicide is preventable but still a very real cause of death...more people should be understanding and not judgemental.

meleemonkey [2009-10-18 10:19:52 +0000 UTC]

Wow, good on you for making this stamp. I've been thinking for a while that we need one like this. I don't like it when people joke about death at all, but it's even worse when they joke about suicide. Suicide is awful, it's something that no one should ever have to go through, and when people don't take it seriously, it only makes it worse for those who are considering it, or those who have had to deal with it in the past.

I'll put this stamp in my journal. I hope that spreading this around can help change some people's perspectives.

Erm...well I do find it funny when people on tv say it mostly because it is how easy its for someone to say it on tv and how hard it is in reality.
