California makes an intriguing point. Other countries get it except her own, America.Oh and France says "Clever fille" which means "clever girl". And if you don't know what "gracias" means...then....you need to watch TV.

California responds with "gracias" when talking to France becasue the French word for "thanks" is grΓ’ce which sounds VERY similar to gracias. Also, California is fluent in Spanish. That's a no-brainer....

This is dedicated to my LGBT group on my college campus since about 70% of them know what anime is and like it.

California responded to France with "Gracias" due to that fact that nowadays in California, Spanish is spoken by many, MANY people. I should know, I am from California and speak next to perfect Spanish.
Also, "Gracias" is a slightly clever pun on the word "GrΓ’ce" which means "thanks" in French.
