Hiccup twisted around on the bench and came face to face with the person of his secret affection--- Astrid!Her expression was stern and tense as she looked down on him. She eyed his raised fists and wondered if he might actually try to land a hit on her. "Humph," she mentally scoffed, "I can take him down before he even flinches! What does he think he's doing?!"
In her right hand, Astrid held a wooden soup bowl and with an abrupt motion, extended it forward.
Hiccup sighed in resignation and put down his fists.
"Oh well," he thought, "if I have to have wear another bowl of soup, I don't mind if she pours it on my head." Hiccup closed his eyes awaiting the next round of laughter.
"Hey!" Astrid said in a commanding voice. "Look at me!"
Hiccup opened his eyes one at a time in bewilderment and tilted his head.
Astrid quickly moved forward and placed the bowl on the table. "Here!" she said lowering the tone of her voice to a less aggressive stance, "I didn't eat this because I don't really like it. You can have it."

XD I have been known to do that. In my marching band, I am known amongst friends as the queen of awkwardness so i'mma not surprised.

But marching band isn't easy, trying to play an instrument, follow sheet music, follow the direction of your band leader, AND having to march in formations is very challenging! SO don't feel bad at all.
Had I gotten in (somehow), I would've been the guy that was suddenly walking by himself on the field in the wrong direction because the rest of the band changed directions!

Well, you wouldn't be the only one. There are Rookies, we call 'em, that have done exactly what you would've done. And they obviously get yelled at, but yeah, 13 hour band camp is exruciating...espessially when it's 96 degrees outside! XDD

Where did you learn to ddraw them so perfectly?

I've been sketching the characters now for several months, plus I always look for a good reference picture. It's the only way to get the portrait of a person right (unless of course they are sitting right in front of you).
:"I also sit still for him to draw me--"
:"Yeah for like 2 minutes, and then you wander off on some unknown mission."
:"(blushes) I have attention-span issues."

Well, this is premovie, but I could see Astrid doing this. She was not the type of bully Hiccup, and she seemed to have a sense of justice. At this moment, she's see him as someone who was wronged, otherwise, she did not notice him much.
At least she noticed getting ready to defend himself- she must have been surprised by that- signs the fishbone has some spine.

Yes, I definitely think a sense of justice. I told Calico321 I got the idea of this snapshot of Astrid from the beginning of the movie after Hiccup has had the scolding in front of the village and walks by the other teen vikings. He gets teased, but she doesn't laugh and looks away uncomfortably like she's almost sad for Hiccup, but would never admit it in front of them.
I also thought it would be ironically humorous that Hiccup finally decides to defend himself physically and then realizes he's bucking up to the LAST person he would want to offend.

Yes, I got that vibe, too from the movie. Both she and Fishlegs were not into the insulting.
And also got your irony, too, that Hiccup would wind up being ready to attack Astrid. I think (hope) she found that kind of admirable that he was finally trying to stick up for himself.
