Description Raelin is the first in a line of dwarf portraits I made not long ago. She's a barbarian and I'm quite happy of how she ended up looking. I hope you'll like her too.

There's just not enough pictures of female dwarves. Excellent work!

True, but I've seen a rise in that kind of illustrations lately so maybe that will change. Anyways, fewer pictures means they are more appreciated when they come out.

Always great to see more dwarf appreciation, in all their forms! (Though no one will ever convince me that giving female dwarves beards is a good idea lol)

Awesome detail in your work!

If that would happen then practically ANY dwarf could be a female dwarf. Except Gimly. At least he tried to explain how it works.

I sometimes get the right mix of beauty and strength even I'm happy with how it ends up looking.

Isn't wonderful when you can find that happy medium and actually be content with how it turns out? ^^

It is but those are rare days. Like any artist, I'm mostly not happy with my work and I don't think they are finished, just decide I have to stop working on them. In some cases 'tho - like this one here, I am content enough about it to call it finished.

PoldalleLovesnare In reply to MatesLaurentiu [2016-06-15 23:16:50 +0000 UTC]

Well I definitely understand that! I've felt the same way more often than not with my own works as well. It is rare that I make a piece and truly love how it turns out. We are our own worst critics I believe!

There is not nearly enough art done of dwarven women.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MatesLaurentiu In reply to SgtSareth [2016-06-12 14:15:05 +0000 UTC]

True. I guess the subject is a bit intimidating as there is not enough information about them. We all know they could have beards and pass as dwarf men.

SgtSareth In reply to MatesLaurentiu [2016-06-19 00:53:17 +0000 UTC]

I've always figured they had lovely sideburns, well braided. Kind of like this: axcido.deviantart.com/art/Fema…

Well, the mystery of the beards of the female dwarfs will puzzle us forever.

Yes, well, I would never actually hang my axes like that but it flows better and they don't distract from the character.

Realin is a damn strong woman I guess I like all about her, the face features.. like being weather-beaten, the little light reflection at the top of her cheek reminding she is still a beautiful woman.. quite like the tiny colorful bracelet. It tells something about how she is still playful and cheerful under the rough shell. I enjoy all her cloth and hair decorations, the clasp in shape of an axe to hold the bear hide.. she really loves her axe, it’s more an idol and trustworthy friend for her, isn’t it? Somehow I fell in love with how you’ve shaded her legs.. is it the colors, brush strokes or play od shades? I don’t know, it’s just very yummy

MatesLaurentiu In reply to Eveqi [2016-06-12 14:12:56 +0000 UTC]

She's a warrior and a warrior loves and respects his or her own weapons. Thats why swords have names you know, because, for the ones making and wearing them they were more than just mere pieces of steel. Raelin is indeed a though dwarf woman. The tattoo on her arms are dwarf swear words. I was never told about her softer side but I wanted to suggest that side of her, so I added the small bead bracelet, which could be a gift from a loved person or at least a family heirloom. I don't know what to tell you about her legs, I gave no more special attention to them as I did to the rest.
